So can someone give me some help here ,,, I have a 44 inch chest and it says to order one that is 8 inches bigger than your true measurement ,,,,,,,does that put me into a XXL ? Seems way to big

That doesn’t sound right: if your measurement is 44, then you want a 52 inch circumference. XL is 51.5, XXL is 53.5. You’re closer to a regular XL. I don’t think you’ll feel the difference between 8 inches of room and 7.5.

I'm not after a D-1 but this new one by Shawn is seriously impressive. An Eastman now is pretty much £1,000.

I'd rather have a 5 Star. Full customisation, superb customer service, a price which can't be beat and an awesome jacket.

I've said it before but it bears repeating, 5 Star are changing this hobby. The way they are changing and evolving they're going to leave some of the old repro makers behind.

Order just payed for !!!

Awesome Clark!

Can’t justify the cost of top tier jackets these days from the established vendors, thought my leather purchase days were over...then Shawn came along...& the game has changed

I think 5 Star have turned this hobby on its head. Suddenly people have an option for jackets which are starting to hit pretty much all the accuracy bases but for a fraction of the cost of what some of the established makers have set their prices at. And all this with extraordinary customer service and customisation.

5 Star have reached the point where you have to ask why you'd pay several times the price for some of the others' top tier repros.

Shawn and his company are a godsend for us VLJers.

@Shawn Ali What's the thickness on the shearling? I don't recall the actual measurements, but I know Eastman runs thinner than Aero and it would be nice to know where yours sits on the spectrum. It would affect warmth & wearability/fit.

Hi , all. I’ve been contemplating adding a D-1 to the collection for quite a while now and I probably would have gone for a new ELC or Aero Leather as Preloved D-1’s seem very thin on the ground. Now, this new Fivestar jacket has thrown a spanner in the works, so I will follow this thread with great relish!

That's definitely on the thick side...B-3 thickness. Eastman is 10mm IIRC and Aero more like 15mm with B-3s in the 18-22mm range.

The thing that really works for me in the UK owning a D-1 (ELC) is that the short fleece means it gets worn, my thicker Irvin type ended up being moved on due to lack of use. My D-1 with a decent sweater will see off our coldest weather but with just a T underneath is fine for milder Fall days.
