FIVESTAR LEATHER G1 JACKET

I’ll take your advice on that, thanks :) Got some red rust ‘rib n rack‘ knits & rust mouton I’ve had for a while that I’ll see if Shawn will fit. Thinking dark seal hide, not sure on lining colour, want USN in the yellow underside of collar, an early G-1 vibe overall. Weight wise I’d like the hide on the lighter side due to mild UK climate. Wested Leather built me a custom one a few years back based on a Star Sportwear model, turned out well aside from leather pulled on the upper chest area if zipped beyond half way, moved it due to this, reflectively I should have kept & have hankered after another G-1 ever since.

Hi guys, it's my first post here!! I've been looking for the perfect g1 jacket for a while now, specifically the 55j14 model... Hard to find a "cheaper" one. So I stumbled upon five star leather and to be honest wouldn't believe that it could be true.. no way that the jackets looked so good for such a low price. After reading on the forum I went and bought one of them... I mean 125$? Worth the risk I think! So here it goes, my review on the five star leather g1 55j14 jacket.

First of all, if you've been on the forum before and have been interested about five star, you'll know that their customer service is amazing. I experienced it first hand!! Shawn helped me with the sizes and even sent me extra pictures of the leather quality upon my request! He answered litteraly in minutes (consider that I'm in Canada). So I'd say 10/10 for customer service! Great job.

Second of all, the shipping was about a week time with a DHL tracking number so no issues there as well! I was surprised that it was so fast considering the covid situation.

Now, the jacket itself:

The pros, and there's a lot of them. I've never owned a leather jacket so when I read that it was 1mm thick it didn't seem like "thick" to me. Turns out it's the perfect thickness in my opinion, the jacket just looks and sits great (I didn't order anything custom so the 42/M size fit me like a glove out of the box). The leather quality is very surprising... I don't know what kind of magic they are doing there... But to pull this leather off on for 125$.... Unbelievable... Just look at the pictures I post.. I really think that the pictures they have on their site don't do the jackets justice because its 100 times better looking than what you'd expect! Stitching looks solid and strong, nothing looks cheap or rushed, just overall feels like a 500$ jacket. The fur collar is very soft and comfortable, so no issues there as well. Again.. the collar looks much better in real life than on the pictures TRUST ME!!

The cons... So here's the thing, there was another member who said that his jacket had a smell? Something horrible that he couldn't get off... I was terrified while waiting for mine to arrive! After the arrival I realised that this member probably was just unlucky and got a lemon.. that said, my jacket did have a smell, not a leather smell but rather an industrial smell, like a new car or a new pair of shoes.. I'm assuming this is because of the chrome tanning process!! This smell took about a day to go away. The second day the jacket didn't smell like anything. On the third day it started giving off the leather smell, and now it smells wonderful, fresh and exactly what you'd want leather to smell like!! So yes there is a light smell but it goes away quickly and it's all good now. The actual only complaint I have is that the interior lining is painted, and the paint either didn't dry off or it didn't stick? Not sure why but the very first day it left paint marks all over my white shirt (see in the pictures). That said, the white shirt got all cleaned with some light washing and after a day of wearing the jacket, the lining didn't leave any marks anymore. So just be careful at first!!

Conclusion? Overall.. for 125$.. 10/10 for that jacket. The amazing look it has with its broad shoulders and tighter waist. The super leather and the stunning fur collar make this jacket unbeatable at this price range and even higher! My only advice is that for your first day of wearing it, put on a black tee-shirt and spend some time outside, it'll take care of those two small little issues I had! Now this jacket smells amazing, looks great, leaves no stains and slowly takes my shape! 100% would recommend to anyone.

Thank you Shawn!! Keep it up!

PilatusPilot, great post.

It looks well-made and a true bargain for the price. Love to see fit pics when possible. Thanks for the review.

Hi Dear @PilatusPilot

Thanks for your great review, and also many thanks for highlighting the problems, I am more keen towards improving the issues or problems our customers are facing. Due to the pandemic situations some reliable suppliers are unable to fill their inventories so sometimes during these strange days due to lack of materials availability sometimes we use the available fabrics from the market. But as you highlight this problem we stopped using that fabric for our jackets in lining anymore, and dispose off all the that fabric which was procured recently.

Instead of that we will use some high quality non bleed able stuff.

Thanks again for providing this opportunity to improve our services, I really appreciate your kind feedback.

Best Regards

Shawn
