Looking for a company that can provide replacement Mouton style collar. Love the rust and "honey" color and looking for a source that produces these. Thank you in advance.

Depending on where you live you could contact a furrier or leather company
That does repairs or alterations, they might be able to help
as it’s a aero jacket you could contact @Ken at Aero Leather on the forum
Or you could contact @Shawn Ali at fivestar also on the forum. he produces
G1 jackets and has posted all the color variations he has available
In a post about G1 jackets posted Below on page 12 of the post.
he just made me a motorcycle jacket with a detachable collar I asked for based on pics I sent him
Top pic is what I sent bottom is what he made

Why not search Ebay? Search shearling or sheepskin you could probably find the shade you want too! and cut it yourself!

Thrift/Charity shops often have cheap Mouton (beaver lamb), fur coats of the correct colour but always check they’re not made of lots of scraps sewn together and that they have large enough sections to cut out your collar. Some of the vintage coats are made from bits of Mouton. Search eBay too for ‘beaver lamb fur coat’

Went on the 'Bay, found a mouton jacket (depicted) that the seller intended to be pieced out. A local leather shop made and installed collars on a mate and my G1s to replace the dynal ones. Bit of a gamble as you really can't tell what your are getting from pics on the 'Bay, but it was a success.

Hi All,

I source my mouton from vintage garments. You have to be careful and pick and choose. More often than not they prove to fragile for my purposes. A good half the time they prove to be unusable.

Last season I sourced a decent dark brown ladies garment. I faded a couple of pieces over the entire Summer to include the past couple of weeks.

The end result of a well faded brown mouton that began so dark brown it almost looked black is seen below. .

I"m after authenticity & I wanted my mouton to look natural and I've never seen a light colored mouton that did not start out as dark until faded on a true issue USN jacket.

That particular mouton seen will be attached to an original pre War M-422 Switlik Parachute & Equipment Co. One of less than 250 jackets that were issued within the USN during the first quarter of 1941. My Switlik's front left panel as seen in the attachment.

As always It took longer than I thought but I have finally sourced all the necessary parts and have begun reassembling that jacket in earnest. As per original my jacket will be restitched in Silk thread complete.

In the end, I'll do a max effort & spend the time with it as to reuse all the original stitch holes. Thereby and in the end leave no visible empty stitches.

Cheers. Dave

This is very helpful. I have a detachable collar for an A-2 style jacket. Love that collar, but looking for the lighter color, as I presented in my original photos. do you do that type of work? I can provide dimensions and exact photos of current collar and how it attaches. Also photos from AERO on the lighter color. Thank you in advance. New to this forum and find it overwhelming and intimidating.

Hi All,

Thought I might add some completion pix of my Switlik M-422's mouton. Especially since I showed a partial plc earlier in this same thread

The same mouton now seen attached to my original Switlik M-422 I showed previously.

A view of the leather interfacing.

Again, that mouton was a dark brown when originally sourced. It took a good six months of daily sunlight to achieve that vintage look.

There is just no substitute for it's soon to be 80 year old goat hide as seen on my original Switlik M-422. It's fresh mouton really sets it off nicely.
