Hi All,

Finally received my Fivestar A2 Doniger's - One is in Russet Brown leather with Russet brown knits, the other in Redish Brown leather with seal brown knits, both are premium 1.2mm goatskin. Unfortunately both are too small for me which is very disappointing as they're beautifully made. I've posted some pictures below, both are now F/S at £100 each plus shipping (UK) if anyone is interested (apologies if this is bad etiquette) the sizing is XXS/38 suits a 39-40 chest, the garment sizes are:
Chest 44.9"
Waist 41"
Sleeve 24.5"
Shoulder 18.1"
Length 24.5"

Thanks

Ohhh nooo!
That is a shame.
beautiful jackets for sure.
How do you think the sizing thing went off track? Bad measurements, poor communication ?
What happened?
If your selling them it would help to list the exact measurement of each jacket and list them in the for sale section.

Hi B-Man!

Yes, its a real shame, they're lovely jackets. There was a little mis-communication on my body measurements versus the garment measurements, nobody's fault really. Shawn has been a gentleman throughout and i can't fault the product or the service i have received.

Unfortunately as i'm a newbie I can't post in the buy/sell section, i'll edit my post to include the sizes.
Thanks!

For all those who want to order a jacket made to measure from Shawn: this works very well if you specify the outer dimensions of the jacket in every detail. So far I have 3 Shawn jackets and another one is on the way.
I specify: shoulder width, P2P, natural waist, waist, hip, height from hip to waist, back length, sleeve length, biceps, wrist, size of armhole on the shoulder.
And I draw the whole thing on a photo of the jacket and send it to him. Very good experience with it so far.

It will look like that:

Thats a pity as the are both great looking jackets. I have a Doniger inbound which is identical to the darker jacket you posted so I'm hoping I have better luck. I have to say I find the sizing chart at 5* a bit confusing. I'm a 43" chest which makes me somewhere between an small and an extra small on their website, usually I'm somewhere between a large and an XL! The dimensions on the chart work for me (I will soon find out!) but ordering a S or a XS feels weird.
How was the smell Ep? thats one of the negatives (and about the only negative) that I've read on here?

Hi Garry,

The smell is there but ok, its fairly strong on opening the package but mostly from being contained in the plastic during transit i think. Both of mine don't really smell now and as i'm selling them on i haven't taken them out of the packaging. If i was keeping them then I would wear and hang them outside for a couple of days to weather them in a bit.

Good luck with the sizing, hope it works out for you. The quality can't be faulted!

Actually understanding the size Body and Garment measurements there was a little misunderstanding only at the sleeve length which cause this problem, but we provided Our Friend a great solution on which both of us are agreed, As we provide the best Customer service to all of our customers so we will do in this case as well.

Best Regards

Hi Dear Mr. @Flash Badger

Thanks for the order, your jacket is on the way, Mostly we provide the custom Jackets so its not a problem if you want to customize your size Label as well, we are actually providing these garments to many of standardized customers from 1 link to many different countries so many find the size chart a little different than their own country offers which may results confusion, but we can totally customize special orders.

Regarding the smell that was only occurred in our Waxed jackets before packaging, as our working time on 1 order is 24 hours we ships within 24 hours after the order, and many jackets required the distressed look and waxed look so immediately after waxing them we packed this fresh made jacket and dispatch to worldwide locations which remains in Transit for 3-7 days depending on shipping locations, so when a customer opens a package he may experience this but only 1 or 2 hour Air Treatment is enough to solve this problem.

So Now even to control this problem we increased our transit time to 48 hours for waxed articles, after waxing we don't pack immediately if not in hurry from customer side.

Best Regards

Shawn

Shawn, it seems 90% of customers experience no smell, while a small handful do. In my case, I aired the jacket outside, thought it improved, but realized the chemical smell was too much for even me. Mind you, in high school I was one of those impulsive clowns who sniffed glue because the Ramones told me to; I suppose I still do in the garage building model ships...just making fun of myself here, but the smell really was very strong. The one flaw to an otherwise miracle of a jacket, for the price paid. Surely there has to be an economical way to produce a pleasant smelling leather. Once again, totally in the minority of otherwise happy customers. Despite my Luftwaffe jacket having that issue, I was still pleased with your service and generosity. The jacket was stitched together cleanly, and the goatskin was pleasantly thick, with a nice modest palate of shades and tones.

Have you thought about revising this "wax treatment" process so this issue will dissipate? Perhaps you can talk to the tannery so they can perhaps do the finishing in-house? Of course I'm a layman who has no clue about the business/logistics dynamics of your industry. That's the only little grief I have. And perhaps you could entertain a cardboard box for packaging-it could be a fun little undertaking making a repro box as well! Look at some of the NOS boxes some members here have posted for inspiration. Most of us would be pleased to absorb the costs of a nice box.

just some thoughts. Wishing you and your family the best. :) Back to the glue I go...

This russet goathide looks amazing. Is this standard or something special for the Doniger? @Shawn Ali

Folks, always be clear on the difference between BODY measure and GARMENT measure. Say you have a 43" chest. That's your body measure. You can't wear a garment that's 43" in the chest (unless it's made of spandex!) You would want several inches bigger to allow for comfort, movement, layering and draping. 46" would be very snug, 48" average and 50" a roomy fit.

Now some measures - usually up and down, like sleeve length or back length - are one-dimensional in nature. Your arm may be 25" shoulder to wrist whether it's a toothpick arm or an Arnold arm. You'd decide the sleeve length based on the shoulder width - yours and the jacket's, where you might want an extra inch or so on each side - and how you like your cuffs to fit. Extra length on a knit cuffed sleeve is what we call "tunneling." On your 25" arm, a 26 1/2" sleeve might be fine if the cuff hugs your wrist, and just right when doing things like holding a steering wheel.

This little talk could go on and on but that gives you an idea of how you will want extra material in your garment in different places.

Thanks for your great suggestions, we are investing heavily on our research and Development facilities to overcome all the complaints, as I explained this smell issue we already overcome, even working to totally shift our leathers towards Veg Tanning.

I also do have a Box for the packaging, below its image, but when please note when we use this two fold jacket packaging Box the cost of shipping rose almost doubled than a flyer, so many customers dont prefer this Box packaging as most of the times I am providing the cost effective solutions.

Dear @zoomer

Nicely explained, many of our customers who understand how to provide a custom measurements they mostly got the best results from our custom made Garments, I would like to quote a customer who explained us in so much detail and in return he got the best results you can find the below illustration images just for an idea, he was concerned about the pockets size, position, and even distance from side seems, Neck Circumference, Collar etc we just followed the instructions and the results were as below, and he was satisfied. So its totally depends the level of a customers Homework before order. We can produce the best results if communicated well.
