Hi Genlemen, I am newbie to Vintage Leather Jackets universum thanks to thrift shop find. After fruitless hours of googling I was anable to identify this jacket but discovered yours community.
My guess is it is not original vintage jacket but still shows decent quality and craftsmanshift. I wonder if anyone could throw some ligth on style or maker Is it a replica based on reall vintage jacket?
Only two labels: ''Genuine Steerhide'' and ''38''and there is no sign any other has ever been present,
main zip: Talon,
lining: feels like cotton, brown. Pockets made of natural creme color canvas.
3 vent holes in the side panels under the armpits
elasticated side panels on the sides of waistband

Hi, welcome aboard. It's a nice quality jacket, that's for sure. No expert on this (or any type of jacket), my first thought was that the elastic gussets looked 80's-ish, but it seems very short so I wonder if it's earlier. Fantastic leather.

The leather is really nice indeed. Seems quite thick, still soft and nice in touch. Altogether gives a sturdy and robust impression. Doesn't feel like stuff I had before, hence my couriosity.
Thank you Mikey

I do believe that’s a modern Talon-but from the stitching it looks to me like it’s been replaced. But hopefully somebody who knows what they’re talking about will weigh in.

That steerhide label looks very similar to the one Aero used in the early eighties. See this label which is on a Connolly's HWM I used to have from about 1983/4. It should have an Aero Leather label as well though if it is an early Aero.

It has a look of an Aero Windward too.

You right, I've never seen it on first place, it's been restitched. Although it runs 1/3 zipper length on the right side only. Closer look reveals 3 coresponding sets of holes on inner zipper hem (first two on the pic. 1 and 2, third on the pic. 3) It looks like leather oddly overlapped during stiching (pic.3). Maker removed it, then restiched.
Good hint to follow the Talon zipper though. I will try to establish production year. Actually it feels like being a detective following all the clues.
Thaks again Mikey

From some clues and the Aero type steerhide label without the corresponding Aero leather part I think it might be an early Aero trainee made jacket. Or possibly made in his/her spare time. A foreigner as some trades would call it.

To me that Genuine Steerhide label looks very similar as well, alhtough there is not even slightest trace of any other label ever present. And here comes The Puzzle. Due to its decent quality manufacturer shoul boldly brandi it - not shy away. As for general shape Windward looks wery much alike, with different number (4) and the styling of the pockets though
Thank you for the clues

That makes sense: trainee made jacket, hence the zipper restiching and they let him/her keep it, without brand name on it though

Just some recent developments I want to share. Got in touch with Aero and asked them for help with jacket identifikation. They confirm it, moreover I reached by an email actual maker of this piece.
This kind gentleman named Ken was able to confirm the clues you guys gave me:
1. it is virtually certainly very early Aero jacket c.a 1984/85 - spot on, Southoftheborder
2.the Talon zipper is likely replacement - MikeyB-17 - good eye, you were right.
Missing manufacturer label mistery has a simple and trivial explanation - they ran out of first batch of labels...

With Ken's permission I paste his email underneath. Gentelmen, Thank you so much for helping me out with my quest. Knowing its origin and likely one in existence status makes this
outstanding jacket even more special.

''I’m virtually certain that you own a very early Aero jacket circa 1984/85 made during a short gap between Aero labels when we ran out of the first lot before the second arrived

If so again almost certainly made by myself, I’m sure the Talon zipper is a later replacement as I don’t remember having those until 1986

Jacket is probably the only one of these in existence as that’s what we did back them, made “one of kind jackets”

You did well finding that in a thrift shop then. You’d pay a lot to have another one made for you now. Any Aero is worth having.
