New Talon zipper puller for ELC Star

I need to replace the zipper puller on my ELC Star as the repro one on it has fallen apart. I could call ELC snd see if they'd send me one along with a new c clip stopper, though I'm not sure if they will or not. I was going to send it to them, but after reading the replies to my earlier thread a few months back I think it's a job I can do myself. Is there another supplier of a quality Talon repro puller I could try? Of course I could get a nice original one from MASH japan and if I'm going to do that I'm minded to get a triple marked one; were triple marked m39 Talon's ever used on Stars originally, or just m42 types? The Star is my only A-2 currently and I need it in a few weeks for some travelling I'm doing so need a nice quick an decent job. I know, I should have done it months ago....

The original MASH ones...are they still smooth ? Considering they were made in the 40’s and were sitting all these years unused...anyone that got original Talon from Mash that could give an opinion? Thankss

I've seen posts from a few folk who have done this and they all seem happy and better than the ELC repro slider

I’ve installed dozens of them & not any issues. They look like they were made yesterday, not something found in a damp warehouse after being stored for years like you would think.

Eastman says that it was the exclusive Star contract for 1942 therefore a 42M zipper is in order. If you want to spend 3000 more yen on a triple marked Talon from MASH Japan that wont' match your bottom stopper unless you replace your entire zipper at great expense as I have done then it's your call.

my original Talon puller (didn't came from MASH, just bought it off some random seller on ebay 10ish years ago) still works fine.

pretty good for something that was made almost 80 years ago, considering the pullers on modern day clothing (not just Talon repros) would usually fall apart after a few years.

As an aside just have to mention that yet again ELC customer service has proved itself to me to be second to none. I called them on Wednesday asking if they'd sell me a Talon puller assembly. I had a pleasant chat with the person that answered. The next day / yesterday a replacement puller arrived with a few c stops - no charge. Fitted it last night, I took it very slowly and after about half an hour job done and as new again. Big thank you to ELC and everyone who replied to my question.

This is very impressive, happy for you!
I wonder if this means that if, for example, in the future I need to (suddenly) replace the puller on my Star, they will also do this for me for free?

I think the answer could be yes, if you're the original owner and the jacket is within a reasonable age and the zip failure is unreasonable. Mine is about 4 years I think. but seems reasonable for them to charge postage for international destinations. Obviously it's a conversation with ELC at the time and maybe how the question is asked...

ELC is pretty good for things like that. I rang Rob there a couple of years ago to ask if they had any replacement buttons for the Brooklands Motoring coat I had, intending to buy it and he sent me one free. And I didn't even buy it from them. I was an Eastman customer though so he knew me.
