I moderate on forums and my own FB group .
Basically this would have been shut down long ago, you have to be firm and fair. Not an easy thing to do without looking like your siding with anyone .

I think unity has long gone from here . It's more a case of US and THEM .

A simple "sorry" and creditation would have sufficed myself a while back . But sadly that is above and beyond those who you seem to think are the "expert" .
Those people suck at you like a leech , befriend you with promises of
" confidentiality" then boom ! Your cast aside like a used condom !
You served your purpose for them to get what info they want and for it to be pliagrised by them .
Is that the sort of person you want in a forum /group ?.
Luckily they left my group before I could boot them !

All academics are egotistical & arrogant.

Holding onto a little baggage from your school days Dave? ;)

You've probably had a bad experience or experiences but sweeping generalisations like that are just silly.

Academics are much like any other sub grouping from society, there's bad ones and good ones, arrogant ones and selfless ones, just like there's fat ones and skinny ones, short ones and tall ones. I've spent a fair amount of time with academics through doing a MA and also with some of my work. You get the odd up themselves prick but that's like any other facet of the community. I'm in contact with one currently who for example happens to be one of the nicest, most generous and humble people I've ever met.

It's like saying all wealthy people are snobs. Sure some are, but there's also plenty who aren't.

It works most if the time. I joined this forum 20 years ago because I like leather jackets but there is less and less posting of reviews these days, more just regular internet toxicity.

Is it ? I dont know ?might be ? Could be ?

Oh yes. As you know I've moderated and administered forums and groups for a good few years both independent, self funded and on behalf of businesses and in matters of moderation folks are quick to pick up on any hint of favouritism.

Marmite is banned in the USA I think.
It makes great gravy.
Know what else makes great gravy? It’s a little secret ingredient I like to call meat!

(Just joking, I’m not fond of marmite, but the idea of marmite-based vegetarian gravy does sound intriguing)
