Actually, until we hear from Vic, we wouldn’t know if there’s any credence to DDs assumptions . But if we don’t here from him, it would lend credibility that DD was correct and that Vic was in on the plot ..,not pointing fingers here friends just doing the play by play analysis ;)

Is the match over or are we just in extra time?

Have any of the very first posts that were made, been edited at all ?
Just that it often happens in cases like this, where those who are deemed "so called experts" actually alter their original posts so it doesnt make them look an arse ?. Or has everyone been " taken in " ?
Still laughing at all this ! It's a hoot !!

I know fakes and forgeries are a thing, and as much as I have to swallow my pride this thing had me fooled.

But if this is a genuine jacket, and not a repro, wouldn't it take the same amount of effort to restore / rebuild the original as it would take to convert this? Or is this an older fake made decades ago with materials someone had on hand; before new made cuffs and zippers were available? Please tell me that is the case!

Fear not, I have screencapped some of my favorites for later use.

Your opinion. To me a waste of time.
Is it not always a waste of time to talk about old leather jackets on the internet ?

As I'm far far away to be an expert, it made me smile to see everyone getting excited, and since I don't know anything about it, I believed in it.
And then "oh, no, a joke ..." LOL

I can't wait to have the return of the thread initiator.

Specialised A-2 contract knowledge isn't my area at all, but I was interested in following this.

One thing I will say and I do know from working with aviation and military artefacts at a museum level is that if something is new or stands outside the currently established scope of existence then you want to be a little wary to begin with, because you want not only an example of the artefact itself but also preferably primary documentation (official and factual documentation or photographs/film which document an object's existence in its historical setting).

Sounds as if this was at best a wind up to have a bit of fun with the experts, or at worst, an attempt to deceive. Guess we'll know which it was soon.

At least it got everybody talking/shouting!

This was certainly an interesting introduction to the forum for me...

Assuming this all is true, it certainly makes more sense than someone putting a pants label on a commercial jacket to make a fake A-2...

Good on you DD for coming out and making a call and standing by it. Much better than the innuendo which was starting to affect this thread and the discussion after your earlier comment.

Be interesting to see what Vic has to say when he pops up again.

Totally an original Rough Wear, too many details line up, when certain assumptions are discarded.
Hopefully altered long ago! Makes me sad to see it mutated and not restored. I've seen similar things done to other WWII artifacts, and much as I do not care for the practice, I reluctantly accept that it has happened over the years.

The most reasonable reply yet. This is where I am sitting.
