Are you a mountaineer Lorenzol?
A good film with Spencer Tracey is called “The Mountain”.

Hi J,

I used to climb mountains in a former life - not much anymore even though I live by the Alps. I all but gave up on mountaineering when I moved to the UK in the early 2000s. Now that I am back in hill country, I'd rather fly up mountains on a hang glider or an aeroplane, although when I see those gorgeous snow-capped peaks, I still feel the urge to dust-off the crampons some times...

Europe! Did not expect that. For years I figured the US and the UK were sure to be the main addresses of the VLJ!

Great job guys!

Well, with a total of 45 voters I'd think it good to have the admin have the statistics determined, to include the lurkers who visit regularly but never post. Actually, if the members list still includes nationality, it should be fairly easy to determine (export to excel, filter on nationality and latest visit).
It appears to me that the UK has the largest member per capita ratio. Which would figure because that's where the anorak was invented.
And Europe kinda sorta shoulda read continental Europe, as the UK is and will always be part of Europe.

I am an British ex-pat living in France. I used to live in rural Devon, a stone's throw away from ELC's factory and right next door to Smeatharpe airfield (formerly RAF Upottery) where Easy Company, 506th Infantry Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, boarded C-47s in the early hours of 6 June 1944 to go and jump over occupied France. In fact, I used to fly hang gliders from that very same airfield until just a couple of years ago and was always in awe of the place. How was I not supposed to become a WW2, and particularly A-2 jacket, enthusiast living there?

This turned out to be a pretty enlightening poll. All the time I’ve been here, it never occurred to me to ask who comprised this forum and where the members were living. Just from reading VLJ and posting on it, I always thought that a majority of the membership was located in the UK. But my assumption was wrong. There’s an old saying here in the US that says;
” Never assume anything because when you assume it makes an ass out of you and me’
It may not translate properly but it simply is a play on the word assume. Ass / u / me.

Glad to hear your home safe and sound in Moscow. One of the things that I like the most about this little forum is, that it transcends international borders and brings people together , without all the political crap that normally separates their respective countries . Cheers my friend. :)
