Who the heck is Platon? Any good pics of his jackets?

So being new again to the forum I've missed a lot these last few years. I don't know who Platon is! Any pictures of his stuff? A website to visit? I'm curious- I really like the idea of a maker concentrating on one contract- in his case Dubow- and perfecting it. What gives- how are his jackets?

I found his website. I can't find that many pics of his jackets worn. Thanks

No, Platon worked closely with Bill Kelso and supposedly struck-out on his own, although payment for his jackets are routed through Bill Kelso. He is quite knowledgeable in the A-2 hobby, but managed to get himself banned here for being argumentative and outspoken.. He makes an excellent Dubow 27798 repro for an equally excellent price.

Really? Bill Kelso is Platon? Whooo boy-

Yes sir. He was Platon on here and Andy Falzon on TFL, then snuck back in here as Ollie, and maybe one other name here as well. Same problems with the JA Dubow jackets, they are too short.

That is the first time I've ever heard of Platon and Andy being one in the same person...
My size 46 jacket is not too short BTW...

EDIT: I've communicated with Platon more than a few times, and I'm fairly certain he is not Andy.. He worked with Andy.

One can see from the links I posted all members here who purchased a jacket from Platon (including myself) are / were extremely pleased with them. Easily the best original maker repro at it's price point currently available..

if you say so. What I know for a fact is that the mods here can see the IP address for every member, so believe what you will. No knock on the jackets at all, they are fine work, but his business practices leave something to be desired imho.

AFAIK, everyone who purchased a jacket from Platon received it.. (ongoing orders not counted of course) Some received theirs later than expected, and communication may be spotty, but that seems par for the course regarding other makers I dealt with over the years. I tend to especially overlook it taking the $560.00 USD shipped paid for a jacket of it's quality and construction into consideration: Nicely patterned, Italian HH, accurate label, knits on par with GW's I have / had, Japanese Talon zip & United Carr snap repros, etc..

It doesn't make sense that Bill Kelso would compete with it's self since BK offers the same Dubow contract as Platon at a higher price (starting at $989.00 USD). It also doesn't make sense that Platon's payments are routed through BK. Despite them working together before, it's still pretty direct competition, although Platon's sizing is limited in comparison. At the end of the day, it doesn't concern me as a consumer on a limited budget with a taste for detailed repros acquired during more prosperous years in my past (and being within Platon's size range)...

I would like to see Platon and / or other accomplished makers jump in with different original maker contracts of similar quality / construction in the $600-$700.00 USD range for certain...... ;)

Its a wonderful mystery... Is Platon Andy, or is Andy Platon? From my correspondence over the years, I don't think so. But... I may be wrong.
Anyway, I don't care too much for the politics. I just want a good jacket!

I have owned jackets from almost everyone, except the Japanese jackets (although I have handled and tried on a few over the years)... My Dubow from Platon, easily sits on par with any ELC (ten) and GW (three) that I've owned, for example.
I also have a new Dubow 27798 from BK... Side by side, they are almost identical. Almost.
Humble opinion, if you want the most authentic and true to original, repro A-2 available today (all things considered), then a jacket from GW, ELC, Platon or BK will get you in the game. Take your pick.
Platon's jacket, for the price is unbeatable, but only if it fits. No returns, no long sizes etc... Thats the trade-off.

Its mentioned somewhere they have the same Paypal address...
my 01 Cent input...and one little side note: on all a.m. prime Top Tier makers... please dont ignore T. RMcC- J. On their A-2´s (B-3´s) they are the only one using:
..100% brass United Carr snaps (so historical correct) all others use gun-metal repro United Carr or "ELC" or unmarked snaps...maybe not relevant and pls correct me if I am wrong...again....just a little side note...

Ok, I shall correct you. No offense is intended, but that assertion about RMC using original United Carr snaps is not true. Theirs are the repros I’m afraid. Platon, JC and I all use originals made by UC, and yes originals were gunmetal and not actually black. That is how you can tell the RMC are repros. Now we don’t use them on every order because originals are rare to find and somewhat expensive, so if a customer doesn’t care we will use repros, just like with our zips.

Thx. Dave, all good... but again all WW2 originals A-2´s I have seen had brass (blackened) UC snaps.
One of my GW and yes one of your A-2´s, I had, and recently sold, had WW2 original NOS brass blackened UC snaps....hence the Verdigris so often prized and mentioned...
Yes, normally GW and a few others use gunmetal blackened UC (Repro?) snaps.
T.RMcC Japan uses blackned brass UC snaps...at least what I have seen recently....but again, happy to be corrected...no offence taken...no harm done....all good.
