OLDER EASTMAN ROUGH WEAR 1401

Thought I'd post a couple pics of a 23 year old Eastman 1401p I recently picked up. It's marked size 40 but fits more like a 42. It has it's original knits, lining and original M-39 triple marked Talon. The original owner had a reproduction patch sewn on the front which I carefully removed, leaving the stitch holes almost invisible. Gary told me the hand written #012 indicates it's one of the first Rough Wears he was making back in '96. The OD all cotton thread has held up well and faded to a khaki color (which I know is incorrect for the 1401, but what the hell!).

ahhhhh.......the early ones with the talon zipper. those early ones were made with some very nice hides, prior to the smooth spongy stuff elc used a little later, to be replaced with hides kinda this one, and then the "war horse" hides.

Lovely jacket Grant and your pics always seem to bring the best out in photo’s of your jackets.very nice

I thinks it’s interesting that the jacket has some nice graining, but knowing ELC’s of this vintage, I bet it was quite smooth when new. So if it’s like that after 23 years, I wonder what all the grainy originals we all love were like when they were new? Just a thought

Defo keeper , nice jacket Grant , no doubt it’ll look even cooler worn for a couple months with that chain wrapped round it. Had a cheeky eye on that one my self so I glad it found it’s way to you

How does this Eastman compare to your original RW-1401P, Grant?

Sometimes you get another jacket you like better at that particular time in your life and you let the other jacket go. Later on you realize that you’ll never be able to duplicate that jacket and you regret your decision . Did that a few times and was sorry down the road

I bought an amazing ELC 1401-P in the late 90s. Was fitted with an original Crown zipper. Best russet hide in my early years. Sold it in the early 2000s before I enlisted. I don't flip the better ones these days.
