Wearing Luftwaffe Splitterschutzbrille and


Vasily Mykhlik, Squadron Commander of the 566th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 277th Assault Aviation Division of the 13th Air Army, with his IL-2. Plane art inscription translate as - "For Leningrad".

Jimmy Stewart wore his original size 40 WW2 Roughwear 1401 for "You Gotta Stay Happy"... That jacket is now in the National Aviation Museum. Its a spectacular jacket. Stewart was assigned to the 703d Bombardment Squadron of the 445th Bomb Group, flying B-24s.

That’s interesting thanks for posting that. I knew that his jacket was located in the National Air Force Museum, I snapped a picture of it during my last visit . Here’s a close up for you Bretta.

He actually had a pretty distinguished war record. He flew B-24 Liberators out of Italy with the 15th Air Force and unlike a lot of the movie stars who served, but just showed up for photo shoots he was in the middle of many combat missions . He remained in the Air Force reserves until late into his life and attained the rank of Brigadier General.

Thx, that’s amazing... and admirable...not even thinking about ...if he was taken POW ( or worse)... Propaganda etc...what a blow if so...
