FIVESTAR LEATHER A2 JACKET

I really hope that they are willing to go beyond them and be an authentic alternative to the more expensive European and US makers....

Rgds Ties

Ties thanks for your reply and Amen to the above comment ,every time I see a picture of Thomas's jacket it so well done what ever angle you see it at . Is Shawn the owner of the company or an employee ?. I agree with the WW2 jacket being in hand that they would be offering a correct repro cut color lining and thread and the only variable would be the size . I tried to buy that damaged A2 in Michigan after the auction but did not get a reply from the seller .

Looks all keep a look out for him.
A-2s aside
I have often seen a rough WW2 M422a on Ebay, that may be another good option... His G-1 variant is nice, well-crafted, but it doesn't look like any original M422a.
Get an original in his hand, (copy the correct pattern, collar, pockets, same materials as he currently has etc ) and I'm sure he will make a very good repro.

Good to know. To be honest, I am giving Shawn all of the benefit of the doubt to improve his product for the future. Felt it my civic duty to state my true impressions rather than any desire to slam 5 Star. The jacket otherwise is a helluva value for the price. I ordeered a jacket partly due to being greatly impressed with the man's enthusiasm and humility. I didn't expect the world but this is one quirk that came with the jacket I have never experienced in any other jacket I've bought. It's tough, I am giving it time to go away but I think the customer experience will be greatly improved if this can be remedied for future orders. Smell is subjective so who knows.
Dear @Nickb123 Thanks for the details and informing me about your problem and the issue, I knew that this is a Natural Leather smell which normally creates in fresh jackets when we pack them as we use some softener waxes to make its feel good, But its vanish or away after opening the packaging or simply an air Treatment would be a nice solution of this, I made your jacket on Custom basis normally such jacket are not returnable but as a good gesture if you think you can't manage with this jacket I Can Refund your full amount, You can suggest me for further actions

Best Regards

Shawn

Nick,

I am 0/3 regarding my jackets from Shawn...never had the "chemical" smell, just the leather.

I would do the following:
Hang it outside, preferably on days with sun and a little wind. Cold is fine, too. It gets the smell out of my jackets, when they had spent months in the basement closet.

If it doesn't help, try a little hot water treatment. Shawn mentioned waxes, so maybe the water will get off some of it...

If this doesn't help, then try a fabric refreshener (Febreze) on the lining. It might work through the lining and help to get the smell off the underside of the leather...

Best regards,

Ties
Dear Ties,

Like always you really share the good experience and very nice suggestions.

If you see Bill Kelso as the Tesla roadster with J.A. Dubow the cheaper Model 3 spin-off as a top-down luxury to mass model, then Fivestar Leather is the buttom-up disrupter that satisfies consumers' desire to play with jackets at scale. Plenty examples in other industries where such disrupters from the developing world end up making luxury products after they've scaled. Regardless of my personal preference or shopping principles, I am curious if or when Shawn will start making jackets with high-end leather?
Dear @nkang Thanks for your review, I am already working on more premium leathers range continuously working with my Tanners and Technicians about all the feedback and problems we are facing, I assure you very Soon I will offer something very stunning and creative... But I am continuously working on R&D

A little too 'pebbly' IMHO for an A2, the seal brown would be fine for a G1 but don't recall ever seeing an A2 with grain like that, I've even just looked at all the goatskin contracts in ELC's A2 manual and none show grain so distinct as that. Fair enough if that's what some customers want perhaps but my goat GW Doniger looks nothing like that nor like an original I've compared it to first hand, both being hard to distinguish in terms of hide grain - yes goat is 'pebbly' as can be seen on the GW Doniger currently in the For Sale section but this looks too defined. Constructive critique I hope?
