After all of the research , photos, leather sampling analysis and a whole lot of posts and discussion , Is anyone else wondering what ever became of the Headwind Goldsmith Jacket ?? It seems to have just gone by the wayside. I for one thought Jay was on to something and was looking forward to seeing the finished product. A little disappointing for sure.

Jay is too far in to just be another fly by night operator. I imagine, like Platon, he will get the wheels turning in time.

About the limited edition. I know I've said my piece before, but I'm still curious.

Did anyone actually decide to buy a jacket because it was a limited edition?
I mean - anyone who would not otherwise have wanted that jacket?

I would have thought so, I know we sold a lot of the Limited Edition Highwayman to guys who already have one

gary's book. aside from the zipper, jetting, and label, it is just about the same as the next contract. like other earlier pre war a-2s, i would reckon that it is a narrow [for a aero] build, and possibly toward the longish side. this would be in keeping with the hlb a-2, and the first two werber contract a-2s.

Then ELC must have screwed up the HLB pattern, because mine isn't very narrow thru the body at all - quite comfortable in fact.

As to the question of what's holding up the Goldy, with a design so specialized as this, it could literally be anything.

Part of me hopes that if the Goldy turns out to be beyond Jay's capabilities, he'll go ahead and put the Security 32-485 into production. For that at least, actual examples exist, and its silhouette and fit are unique among A-2s (and, I would argue, uniquely comfortable).

I wasn't aware it was in his book, I think someone in the factory has a copy, I'll check

Hey guys, I have some new developments in the Goldsmith project. I have had a lot of issues slowing down the project but now we have overcome the problems, and we are going through the process of changing some fine details and building our final test jacket. It should be ready in 2 to 3 weeks.

We have not been dead in the water in during the Goldsmith issues, we have actually been quite busy getting out orders for A-1's, 37J1's, and our most recent productions, An A-1 for Zoomer here on the forum, and a size 50 Aviator Jacket, both made in our new smooth grain Capeskin.

Stay tuned for the Goldsmith A-2. It is coming!
I am excited! We are getting all the final details in order and we should be fully stocked up on zippers by next week.

To answer a question that has been coming up, we will be able to customize the measurements. So we will have custom sizing available in addition to our standard sizes.

Thanks for hanging in there with me! We have a few new exciting models coming after the Goldsmith. Some have never been done and should be interesting to put together. Also we are planning to do a reproduction of the SAT A-2 Contract 32-485 in the future. I actually mentioned that months ago but just wanted to confirm it as there have been more requests for us to make it recently.

All The Best,
Jay

Good to hear.

I wonder if anyone will try to make the button pocket flapped Werber 32-6225 contract too.

Again I think an actual example would have to be found. One could just offer the 1729 plus button flaps and pointy corner pockets with a different spec label, but I suspect the market is growing too picky for that.

Oh I don’t know. Eastman could do just that and then put on some elite badge on to it and charge double or treble and the lads from Japan will snap it up.
