Advice on a-2 purchase please

I wanna pull the trigger on my first a-2
I honestly love Aero leather as I own a b-3 and a d-1 at the time and others in the past. How accurate are they when it comes to a-2’s ? For example I like this one at Thurston Bros..

Is it more of a high quality house pattern is it a very good repro of an original aeroleather from yesteryears ? Theres also an eastman 44L on eBay that’s peaked my interest because I tend to be a “long” in these jackets anyways.
Thanks in advance

Id go the ELC, especially if it fits you length and size wise, I’m in the same vote as I’m lanky long, and have to go modified to fit.

Haven’t any experience with aero but ELC are well made and have an accuracy in pattern, but to order new is a bit pricey, hence 2nd hand would be ideal if it fits

There are quite a few makers of A2’s out there depending on what your budget is and how authentic you want it to look and feel

Well aside from the one that thurston has, aero is great because they will make you a custom jacket to your exact measurements like they did with my d-1 and b-3 and the fit is just suppurb particularly if your long lanky like we are. I guess my question was more about accuracy rather then fit. I know eastman is accurate but was more curious as to how accurate the experts think the Aeros are
Thanks

I have the exact Aero Vicenza in a size 46, and I’m very happy with the jacket . The jacket is a standard size 46 not a custom made jacket and it fits very well . The jacket is a fairly accurate repro of the original Aero 42-15142-P contract . The jacket is still new and hasn’t really broken in yet and the hide hasn’t developed yet, but it will with time and wear . Vinceza Hide is sturdy and does take some time. Here are some photos

Regarding the specific question of Aero and accuracy, I have a feeling that particularly if you PM Ken you will get a jacket as accurate as you explain you want.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I don’t have any experience with Aero, but judging by pictures they tend to be proportionally shorter than ELC jackets. This is not a ceiticism just an observation, as you said you tend to be a “long size”. Both makers offer customized long sizes too.

I also have to go for longer jackets, but if you look around they can be found. Or they can always be made.
I would also think it makes a difference if you are in the USA or in Europe, which factors into how much you want to spend.
My first A-2 was from Aero. They made it to fit and it was a great jacket, but over time I transitioned to ELC, then to GW and DD A-2's.

I vote ELC. Love mine. I don’t have an aero so can’t comment on that.

I think I might just have a custom one made at aero . I wanna make sure it’s nice and fitted though. I don’t want it baggy on the waste or sleeves. I love the fit on this one..

If you love the fit of that one, consider sending it to Aero so they can use it to take accurate measurements for your new custom made jacket.

Not sure where you are Artie but if you was UK and London in particular there's always American Classics where you could try before you buy! They stock ELC but how they fair price wise compared to ordering direct I've no idea plus Aero sometimes have a pop up shop as do ELC. Personally for the best part buying off eBay has been ok but still a gamble as many here will no doubt testify!

In my opinion that's really verging on too short in the body. I can't stand it when jackets sit above the belt line and I reckon that one there would do that. I'd want extra length in the body on that. Sleeves look to be a good length though.

Might just be me but that hide looks to be a bit too thick for an A-2 judging from how it's draping and how it looks. It actually looks very similar to the CXL FQHH on my Aero Barnstormer!

This particular jacket was from a TFL member, Cole, IIRC. He had it made by Aero in CXL indeed.
