This is super cool. The Spiewak factory when it was here in NJ is about 45 min from where I currently live. Makes me wonder if she still has family in the area. I wouldn’t be surprised since people tend to stay here for one reason or another. I believe Spiewak made the D1 jacket in addition to the A2 when it comes to jackets. This looks like a D1 to me that she has on.

I bet her family would be amazed to know of her wartime contributions and that people in this day and age are still impressed with her and read about her accomplishments.

This is impossible, there must have been some sort of production line involved and the "50 a Day" are her contribution or the number of Woodbines she got through.
For example, the fastest machinist I've ever worked with could make a very basic pair of 1960s velvet trousers (no pockets) in 7 minutes, even she couldn't possibly have made the same basic trousers in sheepskin in twice that time, not a chance, the overlocking / joining machines are far too slow, even it it was possible that's 4 an hour, 32 a day........not a hope, never mind 50
The fastest leather machinist I've ever seen could knock out a Horsehide jacket in just under an hour............every one had serious errors, we couldn't get her to slow down even by offering a bonus for perfect jackets, I think she could have made half a dozen a day without errors.
I'm a very quickworker, I could make a simple leather jacket just inside an hour, but I couldn't keep that rate up all day, I've never tried but I know I couldn't make a Type D-1 in under 2 hours no matter rough a job would be acceptable

In light of Ken’s post perhaps she only did one part of the jacket in the production line. Maybe she knocked out more than her quota for completion within a multi person assembly line which completed the jacket?

Ken, just face it; your staff are slacking off .

Must be some sort of line type production, no way could one person churn that many out. Just like the 24 hour Wellington, yes it is possible, but only if every sub assembly is already there and complete.

I'm going to print this off for Tony & Greg :)

Worker motivation, give them a target to reach. Cream egg as a reward for reaching it.
