Posts and Thread Disappeared

What happened to the thread about a day ago from the brand new member with the funny looking cream-colored jacket that was “very high quality”, “I know what I’m doing”, “didn’t get it in the mall”, etc. He didn’t want it to ever wrinkle or break in. I posted something there(an admittedly snarky comment) but I cannot now find the thread and my post is now missing in my content.
What gives?

I was going to post something on it but I thought there was a good chance it was a wind up. The name J Arthur could be a clue to British ears.

My flippant attempt at having fun with it and steering the direction of the conversation may have had something to do with it. I didn’t need to respond but my sense of humor and desire to mock or spoof a hostile post is irresistible to me especially when one starts using street slang and alienates members without much of an introduction.
He did have a legitimate question but he lost his temper quickly. Keeping the site calm and level is best and that thread was certainly going nowhere but certain escalation and doom! I take responsibility for my part in that and apologize for contributing some nonsense. I still wonder if it was a sock puppet only there to start something to begin with.

I only saw it in the first few hours and didn't realise it had gone nuclear. I still think it could have been a wind up.

Well a fuse was lit but I don’t know what happened after I went to bed lol! His 8th post was full of colorful metaphors!

I didn't know it got out of hand either. I didn't help matters but I certainly didn't see any further responses. I don't pay for being a member here but it does seam rather unusual for such drastic mod intervention without commenting and locking. Very 21st century.
I suppose this is all the more reason we, as united members, should stop responding to first posts with anything but "please post in the bio section first". It always seams to work and nobody has appeared offended yet(except old members). Even if you like an item in a first post, resist jumping in with both feet, committing the whole group to the conversation, and let it go.

Anytime someone starts throwing around motherf__kers on their 3rd or 4 th post then they should be given the boot, who needs that kind of crap around here. None of us address each other in those terms and whether it was a spoof or a real poster who needs it. Did my initial post contribute to the problem? I’m sure it didn’t help but his responses were unwarranted.

Agreed. To be a new guy and then to get all flippant and post nasty names at people he’s never even interacted with in the first 10 minutes of his membership was pretty crazy!

Sometimes people enter new situations looking for ways to be offended. That jacket wasn’t to my tastes, but pretty sure it wasn’t going to look new very long.

For me the red flag was that he wanted it to stay new looking no wrinkles yet two post later he said he had it thrown down on the floor. So I’m thinking if he was overly concerned about it staying wrinkle free clean and perfect and new looking forever why would he then admit that he had it crumpled onto the floor?
He claimed he didn’t want a cheap mall jacket and wouldn’t invest in such a thing yet he wanted his so called vintage jacket to look flat clean wrinkle free like mall jacket!

You made an honest good faith effort to answer the guys questions . You gave him what most here would consider as “spot on advise”. Some of which he accepted and some he challenged. However, it was pretty obvious that this guy was going to be “combative” and “in your face” by the tone of his follow on responses. I spent most of my life growing up in the nasty ass neighborhoods of South Philadelphia where people and attitudes like his were an everyday occurrence. The bottom line is that no matter how much you may try, you can’t appease people like him and you can’t remove the “AH” element some people inherently possess. Glad to see him gone.

I've administered and moderated forums and groups for years and always keep two old sayings in mind.

1 One supposedly from from Yorkshire / Lancashire "There's nowt so queer as folk".

2 “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time” which is often attributed to John Lydgate.

The internet is full of people who are easily triggered and resort to abusive language. There are also others who enjoy deliberately winding people including by assuming alter ego's - commonly known as sock puppets.
