Eastman RW 27752 Winter-Lined

I was in American Classics London in 2012 and tried on a Roughwear which I did not purchase and it was priced at 375 pounds ,that was six years ago . This pricing of A2 top tier type is getting ridiculous .Most of us are not getting raises any more and if you do you do not get better than 1 1/2% to 2 % .

The wool lining would take an A-2 from a spring and fall jacket to a full 3-season jacket with just a t shirt under it for us UK dwellers. Personally i like it and the hide.
But at £1349 i could never justify it to myself. Wife and i could have a lovely holiday together with all the happy memories that would make.

The price might be questionable, but the leather is incredible in person. The photos don’t do it justice. It looks just like an original...stellar work by ELC.

Just wish it was cheaper!

It does like nice however, while it may look like an original, you can purchase an original in good condition for less money. So why not go for the real item as opposed to the repro?

True... but I don’t think I’ve ever found an original in a size that would fit me comfortably. Then of course there’s the ability to have custom sleeve and body lengths with repro a. Plus, I would be a little precious about wearing an original...wouldn’t want to damage it!

Completely understand your concerns . I’ve been very fortunate in that over time I’ve acquired a few originals in larger sizes 46 and 48 that are hardy enough for daily wear. In time you will find a few in you size and you will acquire one that you will wear occasionally. It just seems to be the natural progression of this hobby.:)

after looking, looking again, and re-looking at the pix [on this thread, elc site, et al] of elc relined a-2, i feel that the look of the hide is over done. i have handled many, many originals, and not a one has looked as consistantly grainy-crinkly through out. its a kickass look, but a little over the top, imo.

Have you noticed how ELC's improved hide now looks closer to BK's Liberty? Perhaps what some have called "too shiny and vinyl" is actually not that unrealistic after all? ;)

@MeachamLake I know we have very different fit preferences, but that jacket was just tailor made for you.
Maybe I will get shot after this...
Pricy? IMHO, its jut leveling out with pe BK Liberty HH or the BR and RMZ Japan pricings...so just adapting...Sure it will disgust a lot of prospects...understandable...
Are they selling? yes they do...a few days ago I asked Rob for the best delivery time for an ELC Star A-2 in 46”.... 14 weeks...for an AN-J-4 in 46”...16 weeks...conclusion...ELC must be quite busy...and their outlet an Korea is empty and has a waiting list...Just my 1 dime experience and opinion...No offence to anyone.

As we have discussed in so many other threads (and probably other forums), this is demand and supply. I am sure ELC is doing very very well in some other parts of the world, but they certainly have lost quite a few die hard fans around here at VLJ. To be honest, I agree with Silver Surfer, for a brand new jacket, the grains (I am sorry to say, they look more like wrinkles...) are a bit excessive. I guess most people would want a jacket which ages faster with minimal wear, but not like instant ageing....

I tried that same jacket on the first day of the pop up. There is only one in 46 in this first batch. I guess it didn’t sell at least until @MeachamLake was there.
Nigel did these and the guys think this first batch will be hard to match.

all of this hide stuff is interesting, in that in the many years of emailing back and forth with gary [elc], he told me that the first a-2 jackets that elc was making were mostly smooth, and a little grainy mixed hides. he wrote to me that customers in the late 90s were asking for all smooth hh, and so, he sourced all smooth hh to make his customers happy. over the years customers began to ask for grainier hides [i know that i did], and so the sourced hh began to have more, and more grain. this has led to the other side of the pendulum where the a-2s are now all grain and no smooth areas. yes, some original a-2s had tons of grain, and some of the pre war and early war a-2s were mostly smooth [the preferred premium hide], but most were a combination of smooth and grainy hh. ditto moo, and even goat hides.

Probably something to do with the fact that cheapo mall 'bomber jackets' were mostly made of smooth, characterless 'genuine leather'? Grainy leather just looks instantly more rugged and 'authentic'.

Funny though how some top end fashion brands, and their consumers, still prize 'super soft' smooth lambskin. Us lot would spend similar amounts of money on something that looks imperfect and grainy!

Personally I don't like Eastman's recent habit of trying to make their jackets old out of the box. I don't have an Eastman A2 now but I recently bought a Californian HB that came with pre wrinkled hard set sleeves. Obviously wetted and dried like that. I would much rather wrinkle them myself with use.
