Don’t worry, it’s safely on a wooden hanger now. That was just what I grabbed to shoot the pix.

Btw, how does you A-1 collar fit when closed? They look loose.

They hold well enough. The buttons are a bit large at 25mm. It buttons comfortably around my neck while still being quite adequate for keeping the wind out..

Could you please measure your labels, and post the results? It would be quite helpful.. ;)

Thanks for your help.. I will make this soon.. :)

Sounds great! Thanks Shawn, looking forward to seeing them. :) With the labels and tweaks I requested, it should be a sweet A-1.. I'll place an order for one on eBay when you get the labels completed.

Hi Shawn,

Correct me if I am wrong but are these pictures of "my" jacket?
If not, then I am glad that you have modified the patterns and made the smaller pockets and the back construction the new standard.

I will pick up the jacket tomorrow and let you know if my father (the A-1 is for him) likes it. I bet he will!

Best regards,

Ties

Hi Shawn,

I just wanted to give you a quick update on the received A-1 style jacket.
I did not take any pictures, yet, but you did...so anybody who wants to check out the jacket should have a look some posts earlier.

The jacket is for my Dad, so I make sure that I will take some pictures in the next days of him wearing it. One thing is sure already: He really likes it a lot!

I did wear the jacket for a couple of days, too.
The used leather is very substantial and a definite upgrade to the seal brown goatskin used on my first FiveStar A-2.
I could easily see how this leather can be used for a proper G-1, and coming close to the quality of some of the other manufacturers. For example, I had M-422a jackets from Eastman and Gibson & Barnes a couple of years ago...and I would rate the leather quality of your jacket on the same level. It might be that both makers have improved over the last years...they definitely have increased their prices, maybe to a much higher extent than their quality...

Regarding your patterns and craftsmanship:
I really appreciate how you listen to your customers input, i.e the pocket size, button quality, wool knitwear etc. .. Sewing is very exact.
Nevertheless, there is still room for improvements (If there is one aspect to criticize: The waistband could be trimmer. It is still very elastic, but sewn in a little loose) and get on yet another level of authenticity.

Hope that you / FiveStar will follow that road!

Best regards,

Ties

Looking forward to those A-1 pics with the smaller pockets ties70... :)

I really like the 1.2mm goatskin as well.. ;) Since the zipper was reversed on 5-Star's rendition of the Field & Stream 'Leather Windbreaker' made for me, and the inside G-1 pocket ended up on the right-hand side instead of left, I said "the hell with it", and ordered another with those corrections in the 1.2mm goat, and a few other improvements... The jacket is going through final quality checks now, and should be shipping soon.

Folks, I present my latest design based upon the vintage original, and name it the Falcon X-2:

The Falcon X-2 now sports a single-piece back and two-piece sleeves like an A-2, G-1 style inside pocket, G-1 style wind flap, 100% cotton lining in both body and sleeves, repro triple-marked Talon, hidden snaps on the front pockets, and underarm vents... A BIG thanks to Shawn, and 5-Star for patterning it based upon pics of the original, and building it for me with my additional designs / feature requests.... :);)

EDIT: Here are a couple pics of me wearing the 1st version (Falcon X-1). The production pics never seem to look as good compared to wearing the jackets in real-life. The new one above should basically look the same in the front: (Click to enlarge):
