Yup best bang for the buck. My problem is they don't fit my custom size of 38 with short sleeves. For my height (five four) I'm best off with an original since people were shorter then.

Thanks. I just ordered samples of the ELC 1940 and 1944 RAF jackets. They should be in this week. I’d like to get an idea of what the leather and sheepskin is like.

Is a previously owned jacket an option?
If it is you may want to consider one.
The cost of a new jacket is going to be significant as well as are the shipping fees and import duties. The end result is a jacket you will wear on a very limited basis. If you decide to sell it at a later time you will get about 50 to 60% of your original purchase price back.
As I mentioned I’ve been doing this for a while and have been where your presently are . Just my opinion. Which ever way you go good luck with your search.

I haven’t looked into pre-owned options yet, but will definitely look into it. Thank you for the suggestion, guidance, and support. It is greatly appreciated!!

The approx measurements are Chest = 21"/Shoulders = 19"/Length = 23"/Sleeve = 22½". I'm a 38" and it fits me, but I'd say it's more for a 36~38 than a 38~40 guy.

After receiving many compliments and enquiries about the jacket, I feel it's really going to waste just sitting in my wardrobe year after year, so I may list it in the Buy/Sell section when I return from Tokyo (where I go tomorrow), but feel free to message me in the meantime.

Man your crazy, get that original it’s ten times better than anything and as has been said if you sell a repro your gonna be throwing money away
I think it might work for me. I tried on a Cockpit USA RAF size 38 and it fit fine. The 40 in was too big.

Can anyone comment on how the pit to pit measurements work on a jacket, and how that equates back to a chest size?

I'd say plus 6" over chest for a t-shirt only fit, plus 8" for medium layering and plus 10" for a more relaxed fit that would go over a uniform or heavy sweater, at least that's how my sheepskins seem to fit.

With sheepskin you have to take account of the thickness of the shearling. It's a matter of personal preference how tight or loose you want it. But for me an unlined leather jacket would be more like 3" over chest size for a slim fit. More like 4" to get a jumper on under it and 6" to get a very heavy sweater or C3 or something like that under. It's not so easy to work out how thick shearling is though and Irvins had very thick fleece. However it does flatten with age and use, and that makes more room.

This one is said to be 42" all round chest outside so is probably 39.5" to 40" or so inside taking the shearling into account. If you normally wear a 38 it should fit you fine I would have thought. You don't really need to get anything too heavy under it unless you live in the frozen north.
