Maybe another math would be comparing “average” workers/employees salaries...then and now...maybe...

I can’t address all of the products you mentioned however in the case of many of the weapons you mentioned , Beretta , H&K , Sig, and a few of the non weapon products part of the reason the US Govt contracts with these companies is because all of them agreed to build factories in the USA. For example you have Beretta USA, and Sig USA and so on. That’s part of the agreement for the US military to issue those contracts. They have to have production companies inside the US in case of a War that might cause the destruction of the foreign based headquarters.

Hi Burt,
thx. for your input. I do agree partially, but the “US subsidiary” is only for storage, maintenance and “ legal” issues.
The hardware itself is mostly from abroad...very little subcontracting or manufacturing in the US....

For shits & giggles i thought it would be interesting to see what an A-2 should cost the Govt today .

It still seems to me that the simplist and most accurate answer to the question would be finding out what the government pays for new A-2s the are giving to flight personnel as opposed to extracting it out from things that have nothing to do with clothing issued to the armed forces.

...that is unless there are other factors at play such as sourcing all goods from America or using the same materials and manufacturing techniques that are either obsolete or unavailable.

OK,...
but why the (US Army and) USMC is equiped with Heckler and Koch G-36C, Beretta M9A1 all very recent orders and contracts. (also in Wikipedia).
USN is equiped with Zeiss 20x60 Autofocus and all Hensoldt (Germany) 7x50 and 10x50 Marine Binos... again very recent orders (also Fudji binos in use).
US Army is equiped with Steiner 7x50 and 10x50 binos with Compass.
US Marines still fly the Harrier and ordered a few more
Most of the smaller observation drones have the Jetcat turbines (made in Staufen/Germany)
etc.etc...
Some info can be found officially, some you only see when you meet the users.

See that they even bought SIG from the all neutral Switzerland...

Not sure about the others but pretty sure they made Harriers under license in the US

Well the first line on wiki says it all, you should maybe have taken a look as it answers your questions:

‘The Berry Amendment (USC, Title 10, Section 2533a), requires the Department of Defense (DOD) to give preference in procurement to domestically produced, manufactured, or home-grown products, most notably food, clothing, fabrics, and specialty metals.’

A2s...yes, Bono’s, Turbines, Firearms...no

Aware of the BA , but it says ...” preference “ not “ mendatory”... plus not for all the US military buys.

Until now all producers were from USA. Berry amendment requires that all materials used in the jacket must be of American origin. Goat skins used are required to have been born and bred in the U.S., and the leather tanned in the U.S. Before Berry amandment all jackets made by Cooper Sportswear, and the jackets made by Avirex in 1998, were made of goatskin imported from Pakistan.

Thx.
For jackets apparently its quite fashionable to have USAF or USAAF jackets sourced from there.
But so far nobody is really worried as long as the Beretta’s, the Hensold‘s, the Heckler and Koch‘s or the USN Harrier‘s are NOT made( NOT serviced) in Pakistan. :)

I did not know that they are made in Pakistan. They sell it under Beretta brand or they have some other name?
