The original Sigmund Eisner label should look like this. Buzz 's label obviously had not based on that nor Switlik & so does Bronson.
Thanks Dr. cos I am asking if the label manufacturer
SIGMUND LABEL 20May18_1.jpg
could make another "ONE" label for me - their usu. mini. order is 1000 pcs !
P.S. I did not have evidences supporting Michael did produce J1A, as said, what draws me back is the clearness of the font of the sigmund label for a faithful reproduction. however, I do agree Sigmund is a "Safer" bet .

I agree Geeboo, the 37J1A and the 37S3 appear to have more elements in common and the Eisner and Buzz certainly have a similar aspect ratio, so I'd still lean towards that type of label for the earlier jackets, while the 37J1B seems to fall into the wider labels that you see on later BU AERO jackets such as Edmund Church (M-422/M-422A) etc.

Tks Dr for the reminder. I decide to go for the Sigmund label. 1 thing trouble me from the start is the un-clearness of the original label. However, it is the one and only one original 37J1a specimen label found.
So, I went on search & search. in, 2004, RMC released a 37J1a version with the Sigmund label. Although there are some wrong in the jacket, the label is found to be very informative.
My original doubt is found to be well-reasoned cos I thought the contract is 455 !! In fact it is 45151 - the 1 is so thin that had been worn off !!
The 2nd loophole is the omission of the Bureau
sigmund.jpg
of Aeronautics in the original, thinking back, I think this line was covered by the hanging stripe !!
The font, the spacing of the RMC's label is found to be almost the same as the original, so I believe the RMC's label is a faithful reproduction of the Sigmund label.
Now, This is my draft to the label maker, is there an "a" after 37J1 [anyone has a clearer image of the RMC label?] ? What else is susceptible ? Kindly voice out.

Tom.
It is a silly thing !
Does it really matters ? It does...... it doesn't - both are correct.
I view in this angle: While I have the $, time, mood & energy to do this thing, I try my best to do a replica [that fits me exactly as at now & look as much as possible to the original] as later on when I grew further older, I may not have the time, $, mood & energy to do it again - at least to the level I require. So, I do it almost as money at no costs ! When I was at 60 & look back, hey I did had made this pretty cool jacket when I was at 48!

Pengyou,

was no criticism but just a remark how surprisingly deep you dig into those details.

Would never really care or put that much effort into a label but I have other areas in my hobby in which I really care about that latest detail no one else would. So keep th epics comin` and let us be part of your improvement activities

waiting for the customed label as well. Talon zip arrived. Pending for more washes if I have the mood. That one is more difficult, IMO

just received a finished product photo from the label maker - 85% from perfection -> acceptable to me, given my tiny order.
The sigmund label is under progress.

Zielinski is the original label that went with B4 you remind me. But now I will go with Sigmund label which is under-way.

Here is the label of the original 37J1 in Buzz's collection that their jackets were copied from.

I've often wondered how easy it would be to replicate an original makers label so am surprised it's seems a matter of just choosing the one u desire and are able to just get a couple .... Great for what your doing and it looks fab

no, after getting my hands wet, I found out it is not an easy job to replicate an original label, the fonts are often not all of the same type in 1 label and so are the sizes of each row - it varies, so you have to draw yourself sometimes.
Spacing between the letters and sizing is the most crucial "has to do right" items - that is also the most difficult part. Roughly speaking, I need to do 50+ adjustments from the 1st draft to the final blueprint sent to the maker. It would have been an easier job should I know how to use photoshop; however, I don't and I just use Microsoft paint - which is very rough and very time consuming.
for this jacket, I had made 3 labels: 1st one is Zielinski, the 2nd one is Sigmund- which is a bit too big & the thread used is too shiny [the maker used metal thread] , then the 3rd one is about correct - abit smaller and used normal yellow thread -- and till it is not perfect, only ok.
This thread is a simplified version of the end result, which many works and frustration behind have been omitted.

Yes tottaly agreed and understanding that it is a tricky thing to get right let alone perfect so congrats on your accomplishments so far but do they charge a premium for supplying individual labels ...?nice one Art
