I feel bad for buying a $300 jacket... should I?

Hey everyone, I'm new here.

I've been in love with leather jackets ever since I was 10 years old, all due to Alex Krycek on The X-Files. I've owned 4 leather jackets in my life now, and 1 suede. All of those except the most recent were bought before 2007 for under $300. Is it safe for me to assume that the jackets have really gone up in price since then? Because it sure seems so. But my knowledge is limited. As far as I know, I don't remember seeing anything in stores back in the day for over $600. Now they can cost as much as $2000, or even more if you're going to go crazy.

My most recent jacket was purchased this past October for $415 Canadian. I've seen it selling on the Internet for about $300 USD. The store was selling it closer to $500 Canadian but I got it a bit cheaper since I was paying cash. Either that, or the cashier chick liked me, but probably the former.

I just feel like I cheaped out a bit on this jacket and that I should have been willing to spend more, which I could have. Granted, I couldn't be more happier with the jacket, and nothing really caught my eye more than this one. Actually, when I got home I realized just how close it is to some of the ones Nic Lea wore on The X-Files, so I'm very pleased. I get the feeling that most of you will tell me what matters is whether or not I'm happy. I do agree, but I'd really like some advice here. So I'll tell you a bit about the jacket and show some pics. (The pics do the jacket terrible justice, BTW).

The jacket is by a division of Shaf International "Leather King"... made in Pakistan. 5XL. I take it the Pakistan feature is why it was so cheap, but the jacket weights about 8 lbs and seems to be great quality. The stitching could be better, sure, and there's an inner zipper for winter lining which is a bit out of sync. Yes, the jacket even has winter lining which can be zipped out, and the lining even extends into the sleeves. It's a simpler looking jacket, yes, but I like them like that.

Please tell me what you think of it! Thanks!

Morning Stanley and welcome to VLJ. I am sorry, but it does absolutely nothing for me, it is more of a modern motor cycle jacket and not a Vintage Leather Jacket. But, that is only my opinion.

Oh don't worry, I'm not offended. I'm actually glad you guys noticed it's a motorbike jacket because that is what I like. Also, I mainly like black jackets.

Do biker jackets such as this one normally run around this price? I think I've seen them go higher, but I'm not sure by how much.

I could have bought something more "designer" and "dressier" for about $1000. But this one caught my eye more.

Try searching for a used Bates Cafe Racer on ebay and avoid the word "designer"in any sales pitch as that's just adding 75% to the price.
Think about this.............EVERY jacket is designed by someone!!!

I'm a great advocate of the 'cheaper' leather jackets (I started a thread here on the subject a while back), although I generally pay considerably less than that for them! I have a Von Dutch café racer of a very similar design to that. Mine cost me a fiver! I've owned many higher end jackets by ELC, Aero, Buzz Rickson, Real McCoy's etc., and loved them, but if you can't afford what the big boys are charging, there are still some great jackets out there for a lot less money.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that the more a jacket costs, the better it is. Honestly, if it's a quality jacket that fits you and is a style you like, that's great.

99.9% of the public will have no idea of what you spent on your jacket.

I think it's silly to pay 50% more for a jacket that's 10% better, but to each their own

Actually when laying flat and photographed from such an angle is difficult to give any feedback

I‘d think no matter what you payed for it as long as you are satisfied with the price vs. quality / design / fit of a jacket you are on the right way

Always depends on what you are expecting ...

Not that far from my hometown is HARRO-Leathers located - manufacturer of motorbike jackets and combinations - since i‘be Been there first time almost 35 years ago their pricing changed dramatically - like elsewhere but if you still leave the shop and feel lucky about the new jacket should be fine ...
