Another fantasy jacket from Buzz Rickson this time NASA

I prefer the slightly darker mouton as well Scott.

You really can't go wrong with a B-10 they are fantastic jackets, comfortable, practical and look good too. I got an ATF one just over a year ago and love it. I don't baby it either, it's actually my "work" jacket. I've dismantled a verandah and built a new one wearing it and been helping restore a very old school Norwegian boat wearing it. If I'm absolutely honest, it's the most comfortable flight jacket I own.

Are all these combos legit? I see many pics online, but I don't want something that's totally fantasy...

Well, the one from the cockpit is somewhat ok if you're not looking for accuracy. Now, if I look at it as a civilian take on the B-10, which it is, I like the look of the light collar, the contrasting stitches, the stencil roundel and the pencil pockets. If you want an accurate repro, go BR or ELC all the way.

Or wait for the upcoming Aero? :-D

Darn, missed the excitement, just fell back into it.
Great to see the pics made it to the lounge, kudos Smithy.

Have a look at them Charles, compare the two and notice the distinct and obvious lack of pencil pocket, and the cloth type appearance.
Don't go ranting about naysayers and ignorants. A decade of collecting, I have appr 20 BR nylon flight jackets from L2 to MA-1, multiples of every type, many of them daily wearers, and checking the 'bay a couple times a week for who knows which one will show up.

Yeah, not so much the stitching, etc., but the collar/knits colors. I want something that was used. And yes, I'm talking Aero :)

Yeah, I agree with redjoshuaman. In addition, the first plays into the fantasy style. I like the BR better but with the proper knits.
I have not been to FL in a long time but the same guys who have been criticizing Dave's sizing are the same who defend the ELC "long" A-2s. Have they once said those are inaccurate?

Here's great post featuring many different B-10s assembled by Ed Nored. He estimates that 5-8% of original B-10s were produced with white shearling collars instead of the brownish mouton. One can easily see the differences between contractors like fabric color, pocket flap shape, tag color, mouton color, presence of epaulettes and decals, etc.

Awesome - thank you!

I like the faded Stagg and the Rough Wear.

Yeah, the light colored collars are my favorite. Ed has an awesome collection and web site. I have a few things from him. I should clarified that by fantasy-like I meant it is that type of variant the has been exploited by BR(not really maliciously). They are quite rare in photos. The first group shot on that page shows B-10s but, and I need to go look at it longer, the white collars are F-2s.
Quite rare indeed and seldom found even in period photos. Yet BR can find a bright red Ma-1?

Pleased to say I'm getting underway with ordering one of the first samples of the new Aero B-10 from Ken.

I like the Real McCoy's version they are currently offering, so I'm going to try and take inspiration from that - dark brown knits, brown alpaca lining and dark rust collar. :)

I think I might try the std route since losing weight (still tall tho) and see if it works. Might be able to get some added length, but I want to try one. Just can't figure out the colors...

That's my issue, sleeve and body length. A standard size won't do.

I always thought this was an interesting original B-10 photo. You can see what appears to be contrasting cuffs on the jacket in the foreground (similar to the Buzz style), while the jackets in the back have cuffs matching the jacket (similar to Eastman). And the shells in general look to be different shades.

In fairness to all VLJ members I should havemake this offer public before half of them have been spoken for. Better late than never
Right now we offeringour Type B-10 pattern test jackets at a special deal. £275 with Free Postage
As it's years since we made one we are checking each size by making a single jacket in each pattern size, I know the patterns are ok but Sam is a pefectionist and likes to check for herself
We can add on to the lengths
We are making one of each size, we've sold the 46" and reserved the 48" & 42" but if you are any other size we'd do one for £275 free postage (extra lengths ok)

We can offer choices in 36" 38"Brown or Grey Alpaca, Collar and knit colour choice, . You'd probably get it during March or April at worst
The first sample from stock 40" for immediate delivery (Grey Alpaca, Olive Knit, Brown Collar Standard Lengths)
We can offer choices in a 44" Brown or Grey Alpaca, Collar and knit colour choice, . You'd probably get it during March or April at worst
PM me if you want one, first come, first kitted out.

I have a BR Superior Togs B-10 with the red knits and I love it. Good, warm jacket.

I also got a red MA-1 earlier this year and it's a great jacket, too.
