Some Eastman Photos

I think you’re right Tommy that the ELC collaborations to date are based, and will continue to be based, on existing product which to me makes good sense to both parties.

I have no idea just what it would take for ELC, or any other supplier, to gear up for a run of something different, though I don’t think the run would have to be as big as you might think, and it might provide an impetus to launch a new product generally. Selfishly, and with regard to ELC, when I read the posts above this morning, for a few minutes I thought this could be a route to a superb Crown zippered ELC Dubow...

However I think the reality is about up there with the chances of time travel being discovered this year along with intelligent alien life, and Donald Trump and Kim Jong thingy me bob sharing the same barber.

Despite all the challenges of all the examples above being made a reality, it would be harder get us in the forum to agree the exact knit shade!

There’d probably be a consensus on painting not being required though...

Dang that B-3 looks great. Bit ironic that you've got the American jacket in the UK, and me here wanting an Irvin...

I’ve never liked the way the collars on those Devon fleece Irvins look nothing like the rest of the sheepskin, like they were grafted on. I suppose it’s unavoidable, you wouldn’t want a collar made out of the curly stuff.

I completely agree.

Is that first Irvin an Eastman BoB?

If you mean the first post no, it's a standard one from some time back with a matte light pigment finish.
The only reason I sold it was the designs arms were to long and body a bit short for me, despite me fitting off the peg normal jackets almost without exception.
The ELC B-3 and B-6 size 44 fit me perfectly and the B-3 size 46 too.

Anybody have an opinion whether Eastman's Talon or Crown zippers are more durable?

I think some folk have had issues with Eastman’s Crown I think iirc finding them fragile. However, from my own experience I’ve got an ELC D-1 and until recently had a ELC RW B-3 and both have Crown’s and no issues at all, other than an initial stiffness, but that soon wears off.

I really like Crown’s and Eastman is one of the few repro makers that has a steady supply. I seem to recall from somewhere that they’re actually made by Buzz Rickson, though I could be wrong.

I agree stanier , my ELC B-6 has a crown zipper and it has got progressively smoother over time. Was very notchy when I first got it.

Yes that stiffness or notchiness sure is a pain to begin with but it does subside and the zips become very smooth in my experience.

I wonder what causes it? And interestingly, if they are made by BR (which would make sense, rather than tool up twice) then why on the many BR nylon jackets I’ve had with Crown’s (albeit a different model zip) have I never had the problem?

Just bought this Eastman B-3 Redskin Roughwear as an alternative to the B-15A from ELC .
Looks like its an earlier version, since the fleece is lighter and different from my other B-3.
Nice jacket, well made. Love it!

Great looking Redskin!
Was it a re-sale or a new purchase.
It certainly looks new. Hard to find redskin re-sales in a size 46.
Good Luck with it and thanks for the photos .
Cheers

Brand new, but NOS apparently if I compare to my other ELC B-3...looks like an older version...much better fleece and skin. The neck chain attachments are also much better quality and design, than more recent B-3’s from ELC.
Bought it from the French ELC distributor in Paris...Steph. very nice chap.

Bought one of these last week for 350 GBP. All was fine until I learned the stop box in the zip was shot, so I got a refund. The jacket had leather tapes adjacent to the zip.
