Depending on the day as with all auctions for something like this, either: a lot of money; or a hell of a lot of money!

i have an original aero 16160 in what i would consider is in outstanding condition. i wear it on occasion. the 16160 contract is an interesting pre war contract, as it is the first to use the large ring snaps found on all subsequent aero contracts, and the first contract to use talon auto lock pullers. it is not quite as loose fitting as subsequent aero contracts. however is is by no means narrow. chappy used my original as a pattern for his reproduction. i have had several rough wear 1401-p a-2s, and not a one was right. and, as mentioned, for a contract of 30,000 a-2s, they seem hard to come by. i now have one that that is the "one", that i am restoring, as the crown zipper is shot, and the cuffs are shot as well. the shell is in strong supple condition, and liner is in generally good shape, thus worth the restoration effort.....as a wearer. i reckon that if there is one original that i would just have to have it would be a werber 1729, or an aero clothing tanning co. 3061p. all that said, my go to originals are cable a-2s, as they are very easy wearers, without being fussy by design.

If you don't mind Andrew, what is the story on the back panel of your 1401-P? Except in the movies, I've never seen an A-2 with a two piece back. Sorry for getting a little off topic.

Thank you Silver Surfer. I'll have you know I have twenty twenty vision. Twenty inches in one eye and twenty inches in the other. Could have sworn there was seam going across the middle of the back of that 1401-P. My bad.

Post some photos if you can SS. I'm no A-2 expert but the 16160 is one that I've always liked the looks of that contract.

Would love to see your one if it's not too much bother.

It has a single back panel, not a two piece one. What you think is a horizontal seam is just a crease in the leather.

ok, i have to dig the 16160 out, and take some pix. of course, then i have to figure out how to post em here. something about computers, following directions, and mind-hand coordination plays havoc with my lizard brain.

Easy, as a tailor it has to be the "unmamed" 1756, by far the best cut of the lot and just about the nicest hides

Agreed. I have the Aero reproduction "unknown maker" 1756, though a bit too small for me now, it is my favorite jacket. An original in my size would be the one.

Regards,

Regards,

It is Perry Sportswear's last contract A-2 and IMO not as elegant as the 42-16175-P, with its rounded collar ends.

Well .....our very limited and unscientific poll registered the following;

Doniger....................................1
Star Sportswear.......................1
Aero 21996...............................1
Werber any contract...............1
Werber 1729............................2
Aero 16160...............................3
Unnamed 1756.........................2
Monarch...................................1
Dubow......................................1
Roughware 1401p....................2

If a specific contract was mentioned it was listed.

Looks like our preference in A2's varies somewhat among our polling group.
Thanks to all who participated and also to those posting photo's of their favorite jacket.

Hmm, not that I've an original Doniger but my GW is very faithful having seen Andrew's so I'm with that maker - I agree his reasoning too, a very elegant version with the pointed collar albeit I do like Perry's for the rounded collar!
By the way Andrews 1401 doesn't have a 2 piece back panel it's just a heavy crease I think, in fact I'm certain!!

Thanks for compiling this list. It is a shame more members did not contribute.

If one goes on first choices then the results as of 9.35 GMT on 14-12-17 are:-
Doniger ..........................................2
Star..................................................1
Aero 21996......................................1
Werber (any contract).....................1
Werber 1729....................................1
Aero 16160.......................................2
Perry Sportswear 1756.....................2
Monarch...........................................1
Dubow..............................................2
Roughwear 1401-P...........................1

Statistically the numbers are too small to be significant.
