How to Remove Heat Transfer Decal from Nylon L-2A?

I'm thinking about ordering a Bronson L-2A (they call it an L-2B but I can live with one wrong letter on the spec label). However, they have Army Air Forces decals on the sleeve and inside back panel which I'd really like to replace with correct US Air Force decals.

It looks like a pretty good repro for the price ($100 on Amazon here in the US). Just a few details off like the knits not being tubular, right-hand zipper not a blackened conmar, incorrect spec tag, and decals.

So does anyone have a good way to remove the decals? I'd try using a heat gun but I don't want to melt the nylon. Suggestions?

I'm with Steve. I think your options in terms of removal are very limited.

One thing I will say do NOT put a heat gun anywhere near it, you will damage the jacket without a doubt. I've been removing the tar from the hull of a 100 year old Nordlandsbåt (type of traditional boat here) with a heat gun of late and I shudder to think what it would do to a nylon jacket.

Perhaps you could try removing or covering the S from forces and replace ARMY with US. Just a thought. The B-3 s that AliExpress are flogging have the US Airforce decal on the sleeve. Go
figure.

leave it alone or for max paint it over - maybe some slight scratches with a sharp knife or scalpel might help but you will not be able to remove that whole think without damages of the jacket - would be maybe different with a leather surface but not with the nylon

Take an earpad and try very carefully with Acetone in a 2x2mm place....to check.
A fellow collector removed the ugly looking decal on his china made B-10. Perfect result.
Please excercise care when trying.

I think acetone or naptha would be pretty safe but maybe not effective. FWIW, it appears the decal is tilted as well. Maybe they are all different. That zip is the G2-whatever EBay seller type and they are not good at all IMO. Maybe still okay for the money but the wrong letter on the label and the zip color may not be as big a deal in hand. Hey isn't that a longer cut?! Blasphemy!

Chinese ( tilted :) :) :)...decals can get easily washed away...guess soapy water will even do the job. Maybe Blasphemy...but you only get what you pay for...

Thomas, please advise, paint it over with what? ( motive?, logo?, patch?)...
With all due respect, the efforts, the durable paint, the patch, the acetone might cost more than the jacket...sorry.

Agree with Thomas...leave it as it is...its low cost all over....
I have a 5 year old Buzz Rickson’s L-2A ( large size...pit to pit approx 26”) which I will put for sale on my return from Korea mid of Feb. for the same price as this nice piece above mentioned....Guess there will be no issues with the decal nor the NOS Crown zipper...Winn some loose some...

$100?[/
Yes! confirmed!
selling my 5 y.o. L-2A from Buzz Rickson‘s for the same price .... plus shipping... like Amazon..
I ship from France or Korea ...up to the prospect.
Forgot to mention...If you are in the US and patient... I will be in Charlotte NC early May 2018, so I can ship from there.. at the local costs...
Like all sales... First pays... first serves...
„ I am interested“ has no value nor any reservation option at all... as discussed several times here and elsewhere..

Plus taxes and duties since I can ship from France, Korea and early May 2018 from Charlotte NC.... if you are patient and paid / commited.
First pays first serves. „ I am interested“ is history... unfortunately... also here... see all threads about this issue.
All my jackets are maybe listed here but surely on other supports..( upfront... I want to avoid any discussion or frustration)

That's a really good deal. If you post it on a new thread it would go quickly. Might need to wait though. I'd bet the necessary impulsiveness would wear off before May.
