Nylon Jackets from DD & GW

Gents,

I neglected to mention on his thread. Pencil protectors, snap fasteners and zippers....

As to zips, all sliders are NOS on these jackets. Many #5 zipper chains are reproductions from Japan, but all sliders are originals. All #10 zippers are completely original NOS examples both slider and chain.

Snaps fasteners are original examples of DOT branded snaps, made by United Carr.

And yes, pencil protectors made in brass and plated in nickel are included in each jacket's cigarette pocket. These were heavily researched, and we found that the items are still made today.

Lastly, I of course have seen the thread on the Hat Place, and yes I see the haters... funny how the attacks happen on a forum where it is well known that I cannot defend myself. Cowardly at best. Also hilarious to me are the allegations
levied at me, by people who have absolutely no experience with me, have never ordered a thing from me, and do not own a single item that I have made. Trolls are gonna Troll, what can ya do?

I can see how this is thought to be the superior product... that nice bell bottom sleeve is the cat's meow. The inaccurate zipper to the front of the jacket, priceless. The plastic
USAF roundel, clearly a fantastic product. I get it now. The fit of this looks indeed superior to the one on CBI.

I think the model is too small for the jacket! CBI's is a nice fit as are the originals (interesting the guy on the right has 'olive' knits on sleeves and guy on the left appears to be a black A2!!). That 'other' jacket just looks so wrong in virtually every respect.

I just read all the negative crap about DD jackets over at the FL.
Who pissed on that guys Corn Flakes?
Also: I'm always a little suspect when you have one company rep trashing another companies products particularly when they sell the same items.
Ya think there may be just a little conflict of interest there?;)

Didn't understand so much agression neither...

Though Big J has a couple valid point regarding the incorrect length and the shoulder and liner roundel. I understood that the jackets could be made to order to the correct short length, but the missing roundels are somewhat detracting to the historical accuracy of the jackets. Isn't there any solution for the last point?

Cocker,

Absolutely. As stated before, I can get the decals for these jackets. The decals are incorrect in the same way that the BR and RM decals are incorrect. All of these companies use an “Iron On” roundel, which I too have access to through Japanese reproduction companies. That said, the correct decals used in the 50’s & 60’s was a heat-set, dye sublimation technique. This is a completely different technique and one that very few places today use, or even make.

As to the length and perceived incorrectness. I believe I may have misspoken on this topic, as I misunderstood JC and his retelling of the journey that was making this pattern. What John actually said is that he took a size M (40) jacket and added three inches to the length to make his 46 pattern. Now, what this is means is that the actual length added compared to an original size 46, is far less than 3 inches, and actually comes to about 1.5” in total. Oddly enough the BR jackets have the same added length when compared to actual extant examples of original jackets.

Sounds like we're getting embroiled in minutia...
If a person can order a jacket, made to fit his needs, with the adornments he wants, doesn't that satisfy even the most detailed oriented among us?
(Not spitting in any ones eye here ....just asking)

Exactly my point. The vitriol started over there, and was actually a shock to me.. It’s all quite silly.

Dave, I am so relieved that you decided not to add the decals. It's the main thing that puts me off BR nylon jackets, and I've owned a few. The jacket gets nicely worn in looking but the decal remains spanking new and bright, unlike on an original where it subtly fades with the nylon.
