My A-2 is back from the shop with new knits. What a difference new knits make. It is a generous size 42 with a Crown zipper. It is a depot refurbish, it was repainted, a Crown zipper was added (which I love since there is zero wear on it and I always wanted a wearable original A-2 with a Crown zipper) and a US Air Force decal was added.
Size is very generous for a 42 (pit to pit is 23", sleeves are 25.5", back is 18.5").

originally, the jac had an earlier hershey bar talon. i have a cbi 18091 that is also a very generous size 42. i always found it interesting that all of the other rw [hh] contracts were pretty much true to tagged size, where as the goat contract jackets are often big, to the point of being nearly a size larger then tagged.

Thanks guys. The knits were done by my local seamstress and she outdid herself. She charged me $80 and I couldn't be happier with her work. I already gave her Navy jackets before I never had a A-2 refurbished there so I didn't know what to expect

Oh wow. That's really, really nice. You'd better keep your seamstress' identity a secret, lest she be drowning in all VLJ member's restoration projects ;)

thanks guys. She did do a great job and the leather could not be better. When they applied the paint they did an excellent job and they didn't put any on the lining or the zipper tape

Great jacket! I love how it tells a story with the depot refurbishment and especially the way cool Air Force decal. Knits look beautiful

That's a real looker and your seamstress has done a top notch job. Is the jacket a Korean War reissue?

Yes I would say post 1947 by the decal. What is interesting is that they still put a Crown zipper on it (which I love of course), they must have had a ton of stock leftover from the war

Just a question, to who were these reissue A-2s issued? The reason I ask is I have a small interest in the 4th and 51st FWs in the Korean War and with them the only A-2s you see are those on some of the old WWII hands. It seems a fair assertion then that Korean War Sabre jocks weren't issued these so I'm wondering if anyone hear knows which types of unit these were issued to. Were these issued in the Korean theatre or domestically?

Cheers,

Tim
