Guys,

it's not really "related gear" but I just have received this:

It is a fragment from a 250kg heavy USAAF bomb, found at construction works at one of our companies two refineries here in Germany.
The acid fuse was still intact, and the bomb disposal team decided to destroy the bomb with a controlled explosion.

Some of the splinters flew some hundred meters, and this part (roughly 4" wide at the largest part) landed right in front of the cafeteria. Amazingly sharp edges!!

Local news coverage. The explosion starts at 3:01

Pretty neat. I find it amazing that so many of these are still found live every year over there. It must be a pain during construction in some of the bigger cities!

Jeff,

with every new construction project in our refineries, we have to check with the bomb disposal specialists. They get updated photo material from the RAF and USAAF every year and so even areas that have been checked before are soil-probed again and again...

I seem to remember some horrendous figures for dud rates at certain points, around 12% if I remember correctly.
