Likewise, I would have no problems buying from Carl. But, I still think it is a good policy as it has cut down the number of first post............I have this to sell etc.

Well as lots of folks want to buy.
Carl obviously has lots that he wants to sell.
He has posted lots and seems to a very knowledgable guy.
And with lots of interesting gear can’t a moderator ( calling Mr Lever ) switch whatever needs to be switched to have Carl up and running.
Surely Pm selling is defeating the standard situation here so let’s get everyone happy.

Sorry Steve, having read your posts for (it seems) forever you are undoubtedly a gentleman of the highest order and I’d love a beer with you discussing jackets and everything else.

But on this point I respectfully but totally disagree. If people post daft sales, then we should ignore and move on, as would happen in the real world.

Because of this decision, we come across as elitist and snobby to new members and in the case of Carl that has backfired remarkably.

I said it was a daft decision then and I stand by my words.

AFAIK we’re all equals in this forum with no one having presedence but the way this rule was rushed through over the Christmas period in 48 hours with just a small number of noisy contributors just isn’t cricket in my view.

Are you coming to Flying Legends? If so we can have a natter there?

At this point Steve I’m unlikely to be part of the VLJ meetup at FL even if I do go on the day. I’d love to have a natter with you (and don’t forget that beer!!, we should do it one day!!) but honestly I actually feel extremely uncomfortable on this topic and I don’t want to be somehow drawn into condoning where we’ve got to.

My life experience is that excluding people and having a them and us situation on any level never ends well, and actually makes life more difficult for everyone.

Your posts always come across to me that you’re a great guy, and I certainly don’t mean to offend you personally.

I just know that sombody selling a daft mall jacket, knowingly or unknowingly, shouldn’t have led us here. Education and observation, not exclusion. That isn’t nice.

Cheers

Chris

Interesting to see only a couple of the original members who sanctioned this ruling have bothered to reply .
Also , can i ask how many Admin/moderators there are on this forum please ? :)

To prevent spammers from joining VLJ I propose that all new members have to answer at least a couple of questions such as why they want to join and what they can contribute to forum discussions. I have set these type of questions on several FB groups which I administer and it does help to prevent spammers from joining. John Lever does a great job removing spam posts, but more moderators are needed to deal with inappropriate posts.

It seems not enough.

Perhaps if you became a moderator you could give yourself permission !!!

Having to have a 90 day old account does seem a bit excessive. After 10-20 posts you can tell if one's really interested in what is going on here or is only here to sell a mall jacket. I'm in the same shoes, I already have stuff to post in the Buy/Sell section, but can't for another 2 months :/

My ideas about this have softened too, and I think a month would have been a better bet.

But Carl, harping on about it probably won't make the powers-that-be any more inclined to change the rules. It was a bone of contention when it was originally discussed and I'd imagine there's a few who don't feel like picking at that scab again.
