Using an iron to apply decal on leather

Just ordered this MASH kit from Vintage Productions.

I see on the MASH site, they talk about using an iron with no steam holes. Didn't know they make these anymore. Anyone have a suitable substitute for this as I don't own a "plain" iron.

I've done these on nylon jackets and they were pretty simple. This will be my first attempt at leather. :?

Just empty out all the water and select whichever heat is required.

That's what I was thinking, then right at the bottom of the page ...

tip-1) Iron must be plain type, no steam type. Holes for steaming make spots on Decal.

I have a plain one somewhere, I use it to iron oil stains out of wooden furniture.

Or put a thin plate of a good thermal conductor (aluminium?) below the empty steam iron to offer a flat surface.

Iron on vs water slide for leather, which one is better? What does BK, ELC or Cockpit use?

I mainly have used MASH water slide but with one failure, an Aero goatskin, it got on fine, but after a week it cracked as the leather creases, I did everything right as I've done it many times. Whereas a eBay Taiwan dealers iron on for an Orchard A2 goat stayed on perfectly well.
