Bronson B-10

I bought a B-9 and it should arrive later this week. I don't own an original but I can throw up some pictures when it arrives.
I'd be really interested to see that. It's one that I'd consider as I really regret selling my original B-9. Looking forward to the pics.

Nice jackets. I was trying to get their tanker jacket from Taobao shop but they were out of my size (L), I bought some of their denim garments and I am very happy with their qualities. This brand seems to be a breath of fresh air coming out of China, well, literally....... at the moment.

The A-1 looks ok. Not sure why they put G-1 pockets on it though. Not really an accurate repro but looks to be ok on the quality. I couldn't get beyond those seemed poly knits. It is not an easy job to change those out either.

Actually, I like the jacket for it's overall vintage look, and also like the larger, useful pockets.. ;) I'm pretty sure the knits are a wool-blend, and should look decent for awhile. If anyone stops me on the street, noticing the seam in the cuffs, I may think about doing something about them. :p Seriously, it's a sweet jacket for the $$ IMO.. :)

The top end makers have been putting the larger pockets (ie: larger than the originals ever had) on their A1 repros for years, so hardly a deal breaker especially for that price. I think (and I'm sure there's plenty will correct me if it warrants it! ha) GW is the only one that keeps the pockets small as per the originals.

I think you've done brilliantly with both for the price. Great fit and they look the biz. The seamed knits are easily rectified come replacement time with something from MASH, etc - I certainly wouldn't sweat it until then. Well done.

Eastman also keep the pockets small. These Bronson jackets are great for the price point and drama free to wear w/o worry of wreaking a high $ jacket. At this price, they don't need to be prefect.

Here is the B9, I don't own an original so my review is very cursory.

Overall, I'm really happy with it. It fits as expected based on the measurements. I am 5'10 and 180 lbs. I ordered a Large, which is a 40, and it fits perfectly.

Flaws:
The zipper is a left-opening "European" type zipper which is not correct (from the pictures I've seen the B10 also has this issue). It is metal but definitely not brass. The left opening is kind of annoying so I may replace it with a Mash zipper or a cheaper (correct opening) zipper from At the Front.

Second, the cuffs have two levels of weaving that looks kinda weird. I have a feeling that if I wet them and agitate then a little it will be less obvious. I don't think I'll bother to replace them.

Third, the button holes seem to fray easily. Not a huge deal and I can clean them up the loose strings with a pair of scissors easily.

Nice jacket.. Thanks for the pics. :) Yes, the B-10's zipper opens from the left as well. I really didn't think much of it, as the pics on the store's site clearly show it, and the Pike Brothers B-10 I also own, opens from the left as well. I didn't think of it as a 'flaw' because of that. My Todd's Custom calfskin Indiana Jones jacket, and Aviation Leathercraft Type 7901/2 Squadron jacket both open from the left also, so I suppose I'm used to it... ;)

Hi. Thanks for posting the photos. Don't worry about the cuff weave. Originals were like that. A few questions. Is the hood lining genuine mouton or synthetic ? What are the pockets lined with ? It should be thin OD wool, and most importantly, is it warm ? Originals were lined with goose down which is incredibly warm. I noticed that the spec states synthetic lining which has the potential to be as warm, or warmer than an original.

Peter,

On the collar, how can I easily tell if the mouton is genuine or synthentic? Full disclosure, I am more of a field jacket guy (M-1941 and M-1943) so this is something new for me.

The pockets are lined with wool (could be a blend and I can't say for sure it is 100% wool).

This jacket is warm as hell. I wore it to work today (it was about 40 degrees) and on my 5 block walk to the subway I was overheating and starting to sweat. For the rest of the trip in I unzipped the jacket, and I was still warm.

For the money I think At the Front makes the best M-1941 available. Our reenacting group (https://www.facebook.com/100thInfantryDivision/) did research at the Quartermaster Museum at Fort Lee and realized that companies had been mistakenly making M-1941 jackets in the wrong shade of olive drab (according to the Quartermaster specifications) for years. At the Front's jacket is gets the color right, the sleeve length right, and a lot of other small details. It is by no means perfect, the lining could be better and the gusset under the arm is too large, but I can live with those flaws. Here is a review we worked on about the At the Front jackets: http://www.90thidpg.us/Equipment/Reviews/ATFM412015/index.html

I own three of At the Front's jackets. After replacing the buttons and zippers with originals, and replacing the next tags with reproductions, I think they are the best reproduction M-1941s made. At the Front has sold their M-1941s a few times this year for $99.99 on sale. With a new zipper and new buttons, you can get a very nice reproduction jacket for about $200 (depending on labor to replace the buttons and zipper). The picture below shows an At the Front jacket with a NOS Conmar zipper and a reproduction neck tag.

Hey Peter,
In your opinion, who makes the best repro M-41?
Hey Grant. I'm maybe not the best qualified person to answer that. I've owned two originals and two repros, one being a probably Chinese made jacket from Epic Militaria and the other a Buzz Rickson. The Chinese one is fine but not particularly accurate. They got the cut and colour right which is the most important thing but lots of details wrong. It's fine for re-enactors who crawl through mud and under barbed wire but if it's total accuracy you're after, it doesn't cut it, but it was cheap. The Buzz Rickson is a different animal. The colour and cut are bang on as is the fine weave cotton shell and after several years, is wearing and fading exactly like an original. The labels are also sccurate. Minus points are the wool lining which is rougher than an original but of the same thickness. An original can be worn next to the skin but the Buzz is too itchy. I'm a bit of a zipper obsessive and the zipper bugs me too. It's a Conmatic, and despite Buzz peddling them as NOS 40's, Conmatic is a 50's brand. An offshoot of Conmar no doubt. Your old Buddy Miles Archer gave me that info. It's also got brown zipper tape. I've yet to see a field jacket with anything other than green tape. Apart from those two gripes, the Buzz is a great jackets and it feels and looks like an original. I don't regret buying it.
