    FiveStar Rough Wear 23380

I just don’t get to wear it all that often. I know y’all say wear it, wear it, wear it. And I get it takes wear to break it in. I work for a railroad. Railroads are very time consuming and life-sucking endeavors, and I’m not planning on wearing a $400 jacket on a nasty locomotive. Plus it adds...

NOT a hangar thread…a loop thread

I was looking through a couple hangar threads and all the various opinions about types of hangars, how to’s, and how don’ts. What about the hanging loops that come built into our A2’s? Any concerns with using them? Certainly not for long term or summer storage, but just day to day? I...

    FiveStar Rough Wear 23380

Got a FiveStar Rough Wear 23380 in pull up brown. I like it pretty good, but I’m sure ready for it to break in. Mighty stiff around the top half. I measured 42”-43” in the chest and ordered a 48 so I’d have a little more room. 28” in the back and 26 1/2 sleeves. OD green thread, mid brown knits...

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

Definitely not trying to shrink it! Trying to break it in. To get it to loosen up some.

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

Aiming to expedite the breaking in of the jacket. To get it to loosen up and move with me rather than fight me every time I move.

Well, they gotta be warm too.

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

6’1”. I’m just not a short jacket fan. I’m ok with having to “lift” my jacket a little to get my hands in my pant pockets. Don’t like it when my jacket comes up when I reach my arms out. But c’mon, we all know the real problem is the extra length is negated by the girth below the chest and...

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

To be sure that doesn’t look too big. Maybe wide in the neck, but I measured 42 and ordered a 48. I knew it would be tight and folks here and even Shawn at FiveStar suggested 6” larger if I like it a little looser. I requested 28” back and 26 1/2 sleeves which were both several inches longer...

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

And the question still stands…how wet? I didn’t let it even get wet enough to let it get dark like things do when they get wet. Individual drops, yes, but water certainly wasn’t cascading off. The second part I knew - the drying part.

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

And no…I didn’t. It was a legit question. Not April fools. I wasn’t scared off. I didn’t “play” anyone. I’m not a complete imbecile. Not complete. My name is TrainDriver, and I started driving a train at 10:00 last night and didn’t stop driving my train until 10:00 this morning. The time...

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

So, I wore it out in a torrential downpour until it was about 3 pounds heavier, and it soaked through to my skin. Then I took it inside and wrung it out. Next, I put it in the dryer on medium heat for about 2 hours. Did I do it right?

    Gettin’ wet to break in…

Simply put, how wet? The southeast US is getting a pretty good drenching today and would be a good day to take a lap or two around the house.

    Full grain or top grain

I couldn’t imagine that the use of top v/s full would make an almost $1000 difference.

    Full grain or top grain

Even the much maligned, the scourges of the leather jacket world, US Wings and Cockpit USA use full grain. If FiveStar uses top grain, someone postulated that may be a reason why their products are less expensive than the others. What about Avi, since Avi and FiveStar are at a similar price point?
