Hi, a while ago I was asking if anyone had a wearable original A-2 for sale. On a short trip to Florida, I get a message and two days later, it's delivered. It has previously belonged to two gentlemen on this forum, very thankful that the jacket found its way to me. The folks on this forum are awesome! The jacket is a Cable Raincoat 10008-P contract, goatskin, size 42. The knits have been replaced, but it's impossible to tell. The leather is incredible, does not look like it's 76 years old. The liner is worn a little just around the collar. I almost can't believe that I will be wearing a jacket that I've only seen in museums. Not all the time as I have a few repros, but I can now say that there is nothing like wearing a WWII original.

Very nice Cable. Looking at the finish I am wondering if it has been redyed in an air depot and the decal applied.

You are right! I found this in a post from the previous time the jacket changed owner:

"this is one of those somewhat uncommon a-2s that was most likely sent back to the factory for a redye. thus, the dye applied was not the ubiquitous thick paint like dye used at the aaf depots, but a thin true factory dye. most of the over dye has rubbed off, making the cable look like the late contract aeros in terms of coloration. the pix that jeff took do not show the real variances of original russet, and darker over dye, though this is real clear in the flesh, so to speak. another note of interest is the fact that there is no over dye slopped around on the liner [original] or original kwik zipper, and as so often, rubbed off onto the liner."

Yes indeed when an A2 was redyed in the mfg's factory the job was much better done and the dye was not slopped on as per many air depot jobs. I used to own a goatskin Dubow which had be re-dyed in the factory and did not suffer from flaking or top layer skinning!

damnit! i should have never sold it. duh. well, it was a tad small for me as a wearer........and a wearer it is. man, that cable is a super fit for ya, my man. flat out bitchn. btw, in all of the years of collecting originals, the cable 10008 cables are one of those rare birds. lots were made, yet few ever show up. dunno why. like the hh cables, they were well proportioned, well made, and easy wearers. wear it in the best of health, tjoenn.

Nice feeling getting an original, there's just something about knowing where it's been and who might have worn even though you actually don't know, hard to explain but a great feeling nonetheless!

Nothing like an original!!!! Looks super. Lets see if you obsess over or are chill wearing it! Don't want to damage that puppy! I have two originals I now alternate with wearing. My favorite wearers have the refreshed knits and repro zippers. Less moving parts to worry about damaging. Enjoy!!!!

I am definitely ok with wearing it. Just came back from the grocery store wearing it and it didn't leave my body between Florida and Norway. The leather is in super-shape, the liner is just worn around the collar and the zipper is super smooth, better than any of my repros. The reason I bought it was to wear it, I can display it over the short summer we may or may not get here :)
