Hi all,

A friend of mine has a nice USMC 7823 G-1 from CAGLECO SPORTSWEAR contract 383s-9211A. This jacket has a black collar. I've seen another one from the same contract with the same black collar. So, my question is: have all 9211A CAGLECO a black collar? And any other G-1 had a such black collar?

Hi Franck,
I just picked this one up last week should be arriving this week, it does seem to have quite a dark collar, when it arrives I'll post better photos.
All the best

I had the same collar on my Cagleco. I believe it was the same contract. I sold that one long ago Note also the collar shape. Reminds me of a G&F M-422a with the bulb like rounded tips.
I have handled a lot of vintage G-1s and that was only black sheep I ever saw.

Regards,
Jay

My early contract Cagleco has the dark collar also. Always liked the shape of collar too.

Did any of these early Cagleco G-1’s have a Rayon lining the same colour as an M-422a ? I’ve seen one with this lining , it’s contract number is N383 28657A . Just wondered if it is original.

It looks like contract N383-28657A and N383s-14722A had the same lining but I've only ever had Fosters before and don't have experience of Cagleco jackets.

Amazing. That guy DEFINITELY flew with my Gramps, Colonel Dick Francisco. Flew VMA 212 Devil Cats, Boxing Bulldogs and El Toro with the most flying hours in the world in the F4-U Corsair. Thanks for sharing this! Would be interesting to see where this Veteran was stationed. My Poppa doesn’t know what happened to his flight jacket :(

Hi All,

The model 9211A G-1 Cagleco jacket has been of much interest to me. After a concerted effort, I found that this same model Cagleco was the identical jacket that was first issued to my late father when he entered flight school in 1954. Unfortunately, this same first issue G-1 jacket was stolen out of his office in hanger #23 (VA-152 Mavericks) at NAS Alameda in the fall of 1969.

Since my father's passing in January of 2008 I have spent ten years accumulating a worthy correct jacket & all the original same patches that were once attached to his G-1 jacket. I'm now happy to say that last month I finally sourced the last of those patches. A real labor of love.

My father was a career USN attack pilot and for the most part having flown the AD-6 & 7 Skyarider, FJ-4B Fury, A-4 Skyhawk and seen wearing his 9211A Cagleco jacket back in the day Note the dark mouton.

The Cagleco jacket's missing patch came to me 10 years to the day of his passing. That finally sourced correct patch and what I previously referred to as the missing link (Post Korean War ATG-2) is the only one I've seen come available since I began looking to duplicate his long lost jacket.

I'm going to be adding all patches to the 9211A Cagleco jacket. Once that duplicate jacket is completed I will do a separate thread shortly thereafter.

Cheers, Dave

I was thinking about those black collar when I was watching "Bridges at Toko Ri".. It's a 1955 movie and all the G1's collar are black although the jackets seems relativly correct for that period.
Don't know if they used props repro jacket or mil. issues.

I've seen the movie many times. It would be my best guess that William Holden was wearing a Cagleco 9211A jacket.

The pocket flap shape is why I like mid 50's Cagleco's - they retained pretty much the M422/a shape and why I'm not a fan of the later 60/70's G1 with the nearly convex shaped flaps! All quite personal I know, I just think the scalloped flap looks more stylish to an already stylish jacket, particularly by modern standards!!
