as per material like fabric of outter shell as well as lining the jacket looks period and USN issue

never seen one like this before and checking the pics the hood seems to be attached / added pretty professional

anyway do not have a real clue about the jacket

Maybe acquired by a QM or someone who had the skills to do such a professional job? It's interesting that the listing state they were Army rather than Navy, but I guess we'll never know the actual story on how it was acquired.

It is an interesting piece though, very different the Seabees Jacket that Real McCoys reproduced or the later French MN jackets?

Interesting. Looks to be a rigger modified N-1. I think the main zipper is a replacement as it finishes way shorter than it should at the bottom. Did you buy it Chamboid ?

Surely they wouldn't have seen a need for USN deck jackets with a hood when they had the insulated cold weather deck caps - NXsx38068 ?

I didn't see any stamps or labels. Marcel's researched jacket looks pretty similar. Different lining material but.... Can't see the neck strap very well but it has it. Also can't ID the internal snaps at the waist as on the USN jacket.

It looks like a mod but a nice addition. I'm a fan of these alterations at least when they work. I just missed out on a 1970's USN A-2 Deck that had a mouton collar, it sounds bizarre but it looked amazing, I'm aiming to try the same on one of my A-2's this year.

USN Deck A-2 Pete, not USAAF. I have 5 of them which kinda allows for a little experimentation..... (cue evil cackle.) Mind you, it reminds me of the time I turned from Mod to Scooterboy and thought it'd be a good idea to 'alter' my original parka.
It didn't go well.

Ahhh. Now I get you. Should have realised immediately ! That would be interesting. I assume you’re going to put the mouton over the original collar, so if it doesn’t work out you can just take it off again ?

Even if it was an AAF A-2 that young Cobblers was planning to add a mouton collar to, he wouldn’t be the first. It was done on base during the War-I recall Aero offering an A-2 with fur collar at one time. Seen pics somewhere.
Various modern makers (Schott in particular) do removable fur collars, attached with buttons, snaps etc. One of my first mall jackets had such a thing.

Yes, I remember seeing photos of an original and I remember Aero selling them. A popular mod in the CBI theatre apparently.

Pete yeh definitely. I have a feeling it’ll end up looking like roadkill so it’s gotta be removeable.
