My new Kelso Civi AN-J 3

Hi everybody,

after finding out that a size 40 (up for sale in the sell section ;-) ) in this jacket is too tight for me to feel comfortable I had ordered another AN-J 3 from Bill Kelso a few weeks ago.

The hardest part was waiting for DHL to deliver the jacket - it spent over a week in the process to get from Greece to Germany. Finally DHL has delivered the jacket yesterday and it was very hard to wait to get home to unwrap the package - but to me it was worth the wait.

The Goatskin is very nice, very soft and smells great. I did order the jacket to come with USN knits in bomber brown which I think look better than the standard USAAF medium brown. No other extras were ordered.

Here are some pictures taken with the smartphone today in my office (been waring the jacket almost continously since yesterday).

Cheers
Christoph

It is interesting that they have used a RW civi label for the jacket. What is the rationale for this? RW did not have any government contracts for naval jackets, and is there any evidence they made civi ones?

Will try to do - but I am afraid daily wear will not happen. Unfortunately. I have more of a suit and tie job so wearing a leather jacket in the office where I spend most of my Time is the (luxurious) exception.

Thanks - yes it will be used. I am sure it will see some wear during the next week. Been wearing it for an13 hour drive and I really liked it.

I love this style. What's your input on sizing--why was the 40" too small? Recommend sizing up from normal chest size?

Good questions...

The 40 was too tight around the chest und too short in the sleeves for my taste - I have a BK Dubow 1755 in 40 that has a perfect fit.

Here are two pics of me wearing the 42:

Do you drive to work. Like you I needed to wear a suit and tie at work but as I drove to and from work and places where work required me to go I wore the jacket on those occasions as well.

What with wearing it every day /seat belt straps on the jacket etc etc it adds wear to the jacket quite quickly.

I used to throw it against the wall of my office when I got mad at the incompetence sometimes happening around me and that gave it some additional wear - but that’s a different story !!

Main thing is enjoy wearing it when ever you can

Quite a few good points! :)

I especially like the incompetence wall throwing - that would give my jackets probably ten years of constant wearing within a day.

But the idea dring it to and from work is good - will do that even if it is only 10 minutes one way.

Cheers

Hey Earl, thats a great fit, looks great. Be great to see how that goat wears in in a few months.

I hot water treated mine, and then wore it till dry, and then used it as a punching bag, It needed loosening up. Back in the day their Victory Horse was a long one to wear in as it was quite thick. From memory I don't think their goat is as thick as their HH. Its now got lots of grain and patina, but then it gets a lot of wear to work and anywhere in the cooler months.

Chest with just a T-shirt is 97 cm.

Matt, thanks. I really love that jacket - the goat is quite thick (as thick as their liberty HH) but way more flexible and lighter weightwise. It’s a really nice leather. Has a great smell too.

My HH Dubow was very nice to break in and also has some nice patina but I guess the horse will age nicer thank the goat as the goat has a very thick and durable finish to it. The coating on the horse wears of easier.

Nevertheless I love both jackets.
