A-2 Nose Art; 425th NFS P-61 and Vargas Girl

Hi Guys,

here is an A-2 nose art project I am finishing tonight.

It is a German Noble House A-2, with lots of flaws like metal brand sign inside, inside pockets...

BUT: The leather is much nicer than on lots of the cheap A-2 copies available. This came from a prototype run some years ago, so I am not sure how the current jackets are.

The jacket belongs to our fellow forum member Tom, who gave me pretty much all freedom to do what I wanted with the jacket..."Just make the girl a redhead.." was all the instruction he gave me. Thanks a lot for this!

I came up with some kind of a fantasy jacket. There was no "Vicious Widow" in the 425th NFS, and I think they flew exclusively P-61As. They did shot down V-1 buzz bombs, though, so I came up with my own kill marks for these.

Hope you like it!

There is basically one more thing to do:
I will add some shadows or a line below the girl, so she does not have to "float" as much..

Best regards,

Ties

Great, great work you did here! It may not be historically correct, but it has the right vibe. I love the 425th patch and the kill marks.

Ties nice work ,your perfected that naivety style of artwork and the colors are spot on .For me seeing the V1 doodlebugs and trains on a jacket is a first for me . I also loved that helmet bag with the stewardess . Man you have a gift Ties , to make it perfect why don't you add a stick and a lantern so the black widow can hold it (night fighter )

That's really nice Tom, too nice perhaps and maybe a little roughing up or sanding to make it look more authentic? Maybe that's not what you want of course! I've always liked painted jackets but know I'd have a hang up about wearing one, particularly a repro, poss due to the rubbish that Avirex put out in years gone by. I trust you wear it out and about and question if you've had any comment from the public? Even if I had an original WWII painted jacket I'd be mindful of wearing it out and about except maybe airshows.

it is a great piece of art work. But as has been said, possibly only for an airshow.

I would be of the mindset to wear the jacket out for any occasion, not just air shows. The level of artistry is exceedingly high, and the grain on that A-2 is superb. Enjoy!

Good heavens no, not only at airshows and related events. This drop dead gorgeous jacket needs to be worn everywhere and any time. I mean, how many airshows do they have in Aguascalientes anyway. Does the climate allow for much leather jacket wearing there Thomas? Congratulations.
